Basil Monroe Clark

On November 25th 2018, Basil Clark passed away peacefully in Pocatello, Idaho at the age 0f 94. He is finally at rest beside Wauneta his beloved wife and soul mate.

He was born in December 1923 to Basil and Mable Clark in a log cabin outside of Redding California. He was named Basil Monroe Clark Jr. after his father. With the passing of his father, he legally removed the Jr. from his name. He hated being called Jr. as a boy. He was however, very proud of the name Basil and would quickly correct anyone who dared mispronounce it! The family later moved to Sacramento where he was raised.

When World War II broke out he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned aboard the destroyer, USS Thompson. He saw action in North Africa and was at the invasion of Normandy. After the war he returned to Norther California and worked in the woods as a lumber jack. When the Korean War broke out he reenlisted in the Navy. It was during this time he was trained in electronics repair, which would become his livelihood as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army. Altogether he served seven years in the Navy. He was extremely proud of his service to his country and of being a "Tin Can Sailor."

After his discharge from the Navy he moved to Sacramento and went to work at the Sacrament Army Depot as an electronic repairman. It was during this time that he met and married Thelma Carter Cory. He helped her raise her four children from a previous marriage, Russell, Sue, Sylvia and Nancy. They had one child of their own, a son, Tim. They later divorced.

On Jun 14, 1969 he married the love of his life, Wauneta. After his retirement in 1979 they moved back to Northern California and settled in Red Bluff where they enjoyed a long and active retirement. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors; hunting and fly fishing were on the top of his list. The only thing he loved more than the outdoors was golf. He played well into his late 80's primarily at Wilcox Country Club with his ‘ol buddies.

In 2010 he and Wauneta moved to Kuna Idaho to be near his son Tim as their health began to fail. Nita, as the family called her, passed away in 2014. He moved to Pocatello in 2017 following Tim there. He will be buried next to Nita in the family cemetery in Millville California. He is survived by his sister, Helen Wienberger; his brother Robert Clark; son Timothy Clark; step children, Joanna Jones, Sue powers, Nancy Morgan and numerous grandchildren.
