POCATELLO - Cleva Gray Hagler Shaffer, 81, of Pocatello, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. She was born on May 10, 1931, in Escalante, UT, to Lester and Cora Gray. The oldest of 5 children, Cleva was raised in southern Utah until she was 12 years old when her family moved to Ogden and then to Pocatello, where she graduated from Pocatello High school in 1949. Cleva married Vern Hagler and together they had four children: Gary, Randy, Daryl, and Carol, they were later divorced. Her employment included working for Ma Bell as a switchboard operator, and then later hired at Bannock Hospital as a switchboard operator. She worked her way up in the hospital to hospital administration as an office manager. Cleva married Dean Shaffer in 2004 and they were married until his passing in 2008. Cleva was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in numerous callings in the Primary, Relief Society, and Sunday School. Cleva was an excellent seamstress, and made clothes for her children and grandchildren. She also loved reading and crocheting afghans. She loved to travel, flowers, was a meticulous housekeeper and was very organized and was a member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. She is survived by her son Gary (Karla) Hagler of Chubbuck; son Randy (Debbie) Hagler of Tucson, AZ; son Daryl (Patti) Hagler of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter Carol (Jim) Park of Pocatello; sister Elaine Wade of Salt Lake City, UT; sister Valeen (Russ) Borneman of Farmington, UT; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her former husband Vern Hagler, husband Dean Shaffer, brother Donald Gray, sister Elna Rae Roberts, grandson Nick Gummersall, and great-grandson Dylan Hagler. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the 52 nd Ward Chapel located at 1700 Kinghorn. A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow services at the Inkom Cemetery.
