David Roy Burnham, 76, passed away on September 2, 2017 at his home in Pocatello, surrounded by his loving family that had been his support and hope during a three year battle against cancer. David was born on June 2, 1941 in Malad, Idaho, to Lewis Roy and Okell Hughes Burnham. He graduated from Marsh Valley High School and attended school at Idaho State College, Utah State College and University of Utah. David was raised in Arimo, Idaho and learned good work ethics early in life. He worked on many local farms during his school years as well as delivering coal, working at the grain elevator and on the family farm. David worked as a chemical technician at Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Brigham City, Utah. After getting laid off, he drove dump truck for Harvey Peck Trucking hauling black top for the new Interstate 15 Highway being built through the Pocatello area. He then went to work at Garrett Freight Lines as a computer programmer. After five years with Garrett, he took a job at Idaho State University Vo-tech teaching Computer Science and Math. He loved teaching and continued teaching night classes after leaving the University to work at Farm Bureau Insurance. At Farm Bureau he began as manager of the computer and data processing department quickly worked his way up as Vice President of Underwriting and Processing as well as Manager of the computer department and print shop. David was an entrepreneur of several businesses including; Pioneer Business Systems, Pioneer Business Forms, and Computerized Management Services. He was also a farmer buying and leasing ground in the Hawkins Basin area and operating them in his spare time. David married Linda Barron "His 1 st wife", on August 24, 1962 making her a life-long partner in all his joint-ventures for all 55 years of their marriage. He was a member of the LDS Church and was active in scouting and was an eagle scout himself. He was a member of the ELKs for about 20 years. David was a hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman and loved snowmobiling, boating, 4 wheeling and camping. David loved his family and is survived by his wife, Linda; and his children, Mitchell (Mary Richmond) Burnham, Rebecca McCollum, Lewis (Jamie Farris) Burnham; seven grandchildren, Scott, Jessica, Michael, Phillip, Chelsea, Rachel, and John Adam; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, James (Arlene) Burnham, Bernice Buchanan; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Lyle and Robert Burnham; 1 sister, Beverly Batterton; and 1 son-in-law, Mark McCollum. David was one of a kind and can never be replaced in the lives of those who knew a loved him. He had a sense of humor which could never be matched. He was a truly unique person. He will be missed by all. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Services will be on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11 am at the LDS Cedar Hills Ward, 5425 S. Bannock Hwy. Pocatello, ID 83204 with a visitation for one hour prior. Burial will follow at the Inkom Cemetery.
