Dorothy Janet Norton

d. July 29, 2016

Dorothy Janet Norton was born December 4, 1928 in Burley, Idaho and passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at age 87. She was the only daughter and youngest of seven children, of John Percy Worthington and Swiss-born, Emma Zehnder. While attending high school in Burley, Idaho Dorothy met Ray B. Norton and the two were married April 26, 1948. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. Dorothy and Ray loved to square dance and travel. She flew to Germany and together with Ray went on cruises with friends and on many trips around the country. She loved to cook and was very good at it. She was asked to do large ward and stake dinners for the LDS church, and sometimes went above and beyond her calling by providing additional money for extras to make the events a memorable experience for all who attended. She loved to cook for her family as well. Holidays were always filled with delicious meals and tasty treats. Her cinnamon rolls, were especially favored. Dorothy was a natural born leader and excelled in many leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Ward Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society President, Young Womens and Primary President. She was also Ward and Stake Camp Director. For several years Dorothy and Ray were members of the local Lions Club. She made a difference in many lives through her service and her caring heart. Dorothy and Ray owned and operated Ray Norton Carpet Cleaning from 1983 until 2007, when the business was sold to RB Long, their son-in-law. The business performed carpet cleaning and janitorial services for many of the banks, businesses and individuals in Pocatello. Ray passed away in 2010 but Dorothy continued to clean the Pocatello Weather Department until she was 83 years old. Dorothy is survived by five living children, Dan (Karen) Norton of Florence, Oregon, Brian (Jerri) Norton of Elko, Nevada, LaRae (RB) Long of Pocatello, Idaho, Janet (Tony) Christensen of Pocatello and Julie (Chad) Marlow of Blackfoot, Idaho. Their son, Duane B. Norton of Pocatello, preceded her in death in 2013. Dorothy has 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren (two of which are deceased) and two more great-grandchildren on the way. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
