Ella Appenay

March 18, 1911 — February 15, 2014

Ella Sambo Pahvitse Appenay, 102, passed away at her home on Sambo Road. Ella was born March 18, 1911 to Lucille Keller Waterhouse and George Sambo. Ella attended school at the Fort Hall Mission until she went to school at Riverside Indian Boarding School in Riverside, CA. where she graduated from high school. She met Rueben Poog, from this union came Morgan and the late Melvin Poog. She then met Paul Eagle and from this union came the late Danny and the late Cordell Eagle. Ella then met Alvin Appenay and from this union came Mary Ann Appenay. She lived a long and healthy life. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, camping, cooking outdoors, reading, looking at pictures, beading, and tanning hides. She was always willing to help others when needed. She traveled extensively to pow-wows, ceremonials and other doings. Ella loved all children. She adopted many and by the time they left they all called her grandma. That's how lovable Ella was. Ella is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Appenay of Fort Hall, ID. and son Morgan Poog of Fort Hall, ID.; a grandson, James Aldon Martin-Perry; great grandchildren Danella R. Murphy, Kobe L. Murphy, James S. Martin all of Fort Hall, ID.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ella is preceded in death by her parents George and Lucille, her husband Alvin Appenay, her children Melvin Poog, Cordell Eagle, Danny Eagle and numerous relatives. Ella will be at the Fort Hall Mission from Thursday, 2/13/14 until time of burial on Saturday, 2/15/2014 at 1:00 pm. Services will be conducted at the Mission at 11:00, Saturday, 2/15/14. Soon after, Ella will be taken to the Cedars Cemetery at the end of W. Reservation Road. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.Colonial-funeralhome.com
