Esther Witt

d. December 23, 2012

Esther D. Wit, 86, passed into her loving Father's arms early Dec. 23, 2012 at Highland Hills Living Center surrounded by love and family. She was born July 1, 1926 in Samford, South Dakota to Fred and Freida Elwanger. She grew up in a loving, Christian home with music and learning the lessons of service and joy from her earliest years. Esther finished high school and enough college to teach in a country school until she was married to Ted (Theodore A.) Witt. Afterwards, and while raising her own sons, she provided care for many children in her home. She loved them dearly and was so happy to care for them, especially those who were in need She and Ted had 4 sons; Jerry, Jim, Ted (Jr.) and Terry. Around 1964 they moved to Pocatello where she has resided since. She worked many years as a cheese packer at Kraft Foods, retiring early to care for Ted. Sr. when he became incapacitated by a heart attack and stroke. She cared for him at home for over 16 years until he passed. Esther was a member of The Grace Lutheran Church. Some of her favorite memories are of teaching the children's Bible studies during the summers. She was the epitome of love and service. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for American Veterans and although she suffered with severe rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, she volunteered her time and services at the Idaho Veterans Home in Pocatello for several years. She lived in gratitude for her simple life and felt privileged to serve those she felt needed it more than she. Along with her loving and giving nature, she had a feisty, fun side that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Esther was dearly beloved and will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her. We are comforted in the knowledge that she is with her Lord and Savior, and having a joyous reunion with many loved ones waiting for her there. She was preceded in death by her dear husband Theodore A. Witt; her parents Fred and Freida Elwanger; her brothers Art and Fred Elwanger; and her sister Hilda Hudson. She is survived by two brothers Rudy (Laverne) Elwanger, South Dakota; Bill (Isabel) Elwanger, South Dakota; Eloise Elwanger (Art's widow), South Dakota; four sons- Jerry (Barbara) Witt, Boise, ID; Jim (Roxanne)Witt, Nampa, ID; Ted (Susan) Witt, Pocatello; Terry (Sandy) Witt, Pocatello; 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Interment will be held Friday at Mountain View Cemetery (private, family service) preceding memorial. A memorial service is planned for Esther at Grace Lutheran Church, 1350 Baldy Ave, Pocatello, Idaho on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. presided over by Reverend Jonathan M. Dinger (Pastor). There will be a reception immediately following the service. Funeral and burial arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, 233-1500.
