Eugene "Gene" Charles Pickens, 78, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was born May 3, 1936 in Rigby, Idaho to Eugene V. and Blanche Pickens. He was the oldest of seven brothers and grew up in Pocatello. He was a member of the LDS church and was an active scout leader in his early years. After graduating from Pocatello High School, he became an electrician and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He joined the IBEW Local 449 and worked for 25 years for Barlows, Inc. and then completed his career while working for Wheeler Electric. He married Donna Hudson in 1956 and was blessed with four children, Linda, Dan, Misty, and Vickie. After Donna passed away, he married LaRene Richardson in 1963 and was blessed with sons, Greg and Dirk. LaRene also passed away leaving Gene with 6 children. He married his soulmate and the love of his life, Sandra Allred in 1973. She brought to this family Tina, Cary, and Lori. Their home was always filled with love, laughter, and the joys of raising such a large family. Gene and Sandy enjoyed many hours with family fishing, hunting, snow machining, and traveling. They also enjoyed bowling, dancing, and going on cruises. He and Sandy always kept a beautiful yard and shared the bounties of their garden with many, including the squirrels and birds. Gene had a way with animals and loved his Yorkies, Rascal and Rowdy. He is survived by his loving wife Sandy; his children, Linda (Sid) Austin, Dan (Rhonda) Pickens, Greg (Avis) Pickens, Misty (Karl) Kerr, Tina (Jerome) Clinger, Vickie (Matt) Sweitzer, Dirk Pickens, Cary (Cindy) Allred, and Lori (Sheldon) Crofoot. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Robert, Harvey, Ron and Dennis Pickens. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and brothers, Ken and Leonard Pickens. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 208-233-1500. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11 AM at the LDS Chubbuck 2 nd ward building, 4775 Hawthorne Rd. Chubbuck, ID 83202 (Corner of Hawthorne and Chubbuck Rd.)
