Evlyne Carter

February 2, 1933 — February 23, 2022

Evlyne B. Carter passed away on February 23, 2022.

Evlyne was born February 2, 1933, to Carol Richardson and Grace Geneva (Whiting) Richardson in Pocatello, Idaho.   Her mother worked for the military, and their family moved from state to state.  Evlyne worked in the fields picking different crops and going to school after school due to their family moving so often.  Later in her life she started working at Twin City Laundry in North Bend, Oregon.

Evlyne met the love of her life, George Carter, in April of 1951 and they were married in Elko, Nevada on October 1, 1951.  Shortly after getting married, they moved to Idaho.   They then spent one year in Canada and later returned to Idaho where they put down roots.  Together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage, weathering the ups and downs.  Three beautiful children blessed this marriage, Daniel Joe Carter, Lenny Reece Carter and Shaunene Nancy Carter.

Evlyne was a wonderful Mom and Grandma.  She was a great listener and advice giver, helping all who needed it.  She enjoyed being a 4H leader, earning her Diamond Pin for 20 years of volunteering with kids and helping them learn about 4H projects.

When Evlyne was in her 70’s, she earned her GED.  As she was taking the GED exam, she even found mistakes in the test.

She worked at Retsel Corporation in McCammon assembling and selling flour mills.  She owned a ceramic shop and she and her mother ran their own secondhand store.  She held additional jobs at times, including store clerk, dishwasher, courier, etc.  Evlyne enjoyed being an artist, she was a certified Bob Ross instructor, and she loved crafts of all types.  She also enjoyed canning, gardening, raising animals, hunting, ocean fishing, camping, reading lots and lots of books, writing stories and much, much more.  She enjoyed life, and her greatest love was her husband and family!  She taught her grandchildren how to live happy and have fun.  She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Evlyne is preceded in death by her husband George Wesley Carter; Father Carol Richardson; Mother Grace Geneva Whitney Baier; brother Robert Russell Richardson and great granddaughter Megan Withrow, along with five aunts and five uncles.

Evlyne is survived by her sons Danny Joe Carter, Idaho and Lenny Reece Carter, Missouri; daughter Shaunene Nancy (Lance) Carter, Idaho; stepdaughter Rosa Jean (Ron) Carter, Casa Grande, Arizona; sister Jeannene Ruby, Yakima, Washington; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at the McCammon LDS Stake Center on Monday, March 7, 2022, from 1-1:45 p.m.  A graveside service will immediately follow the viewing and will be held at the Norton Cemetery in McCammon.
