Farrel Lavoy Sims

November 30, 1933 — September 16, 2016

Farrel L. Sims known by friends as "Flip" (a tribute to Al Rosen of the Cleveland Indians), age 83, of Pocatello, Idaho, joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sept. 16, from natural causes associated with being a diabetic for 64 years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. at Idaho State Veterans Home with Pastor Stephen Yadon officiating. No visitation is scheduled.

Farrel was born in Pocatello on Nov. 30, 1933. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he obtained his bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics from Idaho State University. He received his master's in both disciplines from the University of Idaho in 1965.

Farrel married Karen M. Peterson Oct. 1, 1976. He retired from the Department of Energy. He was a local star in fast pitch softball. He was a born again Christian and had a tremendous love of the Lord.

He is survived by wife, Karen, and children: Janna Ward, Lori Priest, Tina Bare, Debbie Peterson and Brett Peterson; brother, Duane B. "Duke" Sims, 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Ezra Sims, mother, Venna Elizabeth Christensen Phelan, stepfather, Albert Lee Phelan, brother, Darwin Sims, and daughter, Sheri Rae Griggs.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Idaho State Veterans Home or the American Diabetes Association.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the VA home for their love and care during the past four years.
