Gareld L Gilbert

Gareld L Gilbert, 87, passed away September 16, 2018 at a local hospital. Gerald was born November 14, 1930 in Turner, Idaho; he was the son of Leland and Vera Gilbert. In his youth the family moved to Pocatello where he attended Irving Junior High School and Pocatello High School. Gareld married the love of his life Doris Wheeler in 1950. He was a chef at Fred and Kellys for 25 years and for Elmers Pancake and Steak House for 35 years. He was on the board of the first snowmobile club in the Pocatello area. He also enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. Some of his hobbies included woodworking, caring for his beautiful rose garden, and he was an outdoor enthusiast. He was also an award-winning outdoor decorator at Christmas time and was recognized by his neighbors for his outstanding efforts. Gerald was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He always put his family first. He was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association. The family would also like to sincerely thank the ISU medical team and the incredible Portneuf Medical Center fourth floor nursing staff that cared for Gareld and his family during his final illness. Gareld is survived by his wife, Doris Gilbert; three daughters, Debra (Tom) Merrel, Kathryn (Alan) Mickelsen, Glenna (Ryan) Patrick; sister, Carlotta Ames; grandchildren, Brent, Stephanie, Andrea, Ali, Chris, Sara, Molly and Mychael; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for one hour prior. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
