Gary Dee Dixon

Gary Dee Dixon passed away at Portneuf Medical Center after an extended illness on September 26, 2022. He was 78 years old.  


Gary was born on September 22, 1944 in Logan, Utah. He was the son of Charles Edward Dixon and June Elizabeth Abrams Dixon. He was the third of nine children born to the Dixon family. He spent most of his life living in Pocatello Idaho.


He attended Lewis and Clark Elementary, Alameda Junior High and Pocatello High School. He also attended Idaho State University.


He joined the US Army and served full time for ten years and along with his family lived in Budingen Germany and Fort Knox Kentucky. He continued his military service in the Air Force Reserves and retired after 25 years of service.


Following Gary’s military service he was hired by the Pocatello Police Department.  Gary worked in the Patrol Division until he was assigned to the Community Service Division. Gary loved working with the young people, through the Juvenile Justice System or the School Resource Program. Gary was one of those officers who pioneered the School Resource Officer Program. Gary would do everything in his power to help struggling youth get back on track and out of the Juvenile Justice System. Gary was promoted to a Patrol Corporal and was assigned back into the Patrol Division to assist in supervision of the patrol officers and handle major felony cases in the absence of detectives. On November 9, 1985, Gary was transferred into the Detective Division to investigate felony cases. On October1, 1988 Gary was promoted to a Sergeant and transferred back into the Patrol Division as a street supervisor. One of Gary’s Special assignments that he requested was to be a member of the Pocatello Police Honor Guard. Gary served in that capacity for nine years. He wanted to do his best to pay tribute to our fallen officers. Gary remained a Patrol Sergeant until he retired from the Pocatello Police Department on September 29; 2000.


He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.


He is survived by his wife Donna, 2 step children, David Kvasnicka, Laurie Struchen and 7 children Marindi Coward (Mick), Gary Dixon Jr, Michael Dixon, Scott Dixon, Jennifer Adkins (Michael),Rell Dixon (Jalena) Devri Esplin (Bryce), 24 grandchildren, 42 nieces and nephews, two brothers Gordon Dixon (Lisa) and Randy Dixon (Cathy Liteneker) and 3 sisters, Maurine Jessop (Blake), Debra

Thiemann (William), Kara Yost (Christian).


He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and siblings Richard Charles Dixon, Daphne Yost, Lisa Moore and nephew Justin Yost.
