George Charles Burback

George Charles Burback, 86, of Pocatello passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at his home.

He was born of February 12, 1925, in Parker, Idaho. Charlie was the first of four children born to George Louis and Vera Ford Burback (Heltne). He attended Pocatello High School.

Charlie entered the U.S. Air Force in 1943, seeing action in England and Germany as a tail gunner in B17 aircrafts. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Betty Nussbaum, his childhood sweetheart, on December 1, 1947. They had two children- David (Linda) of Corvallis, Oregon, and Sandra (Kim) Rogers of Blackfoot.

Charlie worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a welder/car man for 41 years, retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed working puzzles, helping his neighbors with their yard work, both summer and winter, tinkering with anything mechanical, especially cars, and camping, fishing, and motorcycle riding with Betty in their younger years.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Betty, who passed away on February 19, 2011, his sisters Joyce James and Arlene Kearns, and his half-brother Rodney Burback.

He is survived by his sister Verdean Scott of Idaho Falls, half-brother Larry Burback of Pocatello, his children, and four grandchildren-Cory (Diane) Burback of Winston, Oregon; Amy (Cameron) Marlowe of Boise; and Emily (David) Phillips and Paul (Leslie) Rogers of Blackfoot. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren- Connor and Danica Burback; Andrea, Hannah, and Collin Marlowe; Crewe, Piper, and Chance Phillips; and Evie and McKenzie Rogers, and many nieces and nephews.
