James "Jim" Heberlein

d. February 21, 2019

James E. Heberlein passed away on February 21, 2019 at the Gables Assisted Living facility. Jim was born on March 24, 1923 in Liberty Illinois. He is survived by his three sons, Brent (Cari), Mike (Dorinda) and Dave (Alice); close nephew, Denny (Sherry) Neifert; grandchildren, Jamie Heberlein, Joni (Pat) Gates, J.D. Heberlein; great-grandchildren, Jackson Knight, Andrew Knight and Skyler Gates. Even though Jim was born in Liberty, Illinois, he spent most of his early years growing up in Davenport, Iowa. Both of Jims parents died at a fairly young age which was a tragedy, but he developed an independence that lasted through his lifetime. Jim ventured west to San Diego during the war and worked for the Navy as a radio and radar repairman. After the war, he made his way to St. Anthony, Idaho. There he met our mother, Margaret Walker who was working as a cosmetologist. They soon moved to Pocatello where they were married on August 11, 1946. Jim worked as a home builder before going to work for Modern Roofing Inc. From there he spun off the acoustical ceiling portion of the business and formed Acoustic Specialties Inc., which he ran with son Mike, until his retirement. The business is still in operation today. He was a past member and president of the Pocatello Rotary Club. He was actively involved in Bannock Boys Baseball and American Legion Baseball during his sons participation. His past-times included snow skiing (patrolman for many years), water skiing and golf. But his passion was sailing at American Falls reservoir and dancing with Margaret. After Margarets passing, the Senior Center became a mainstay in Jims life where he continued his love of dancing, with his companion, Zee Tolman. Though this is an abbreviation of his life, one of Jims proudest accomplishments was writing his detailed autobiography in his late eighties. Its a fascinating account of a wonderful life. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; and granddaughter, Lacy. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Gables Assisted Living, Heritage Home Health, and Dr. Lavonne Mills. Jim and Margaret have been cremated and will be interred in Mountain View Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
