James "Jim" L. Barrus, 86, passed away on December 29, 2014 surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on August 31, 1928 to Golden George and Irene Willie Pool-Barrus. He was the oldest of five sons. The Barrus family moved to Pocatello when Jim was a young boy. Jim attended Roosevelt Elementary, Franklin Jr. High and Pocatello High School. In 1944 Jim left school to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for two years during WWII. Upon his return, he met and married Idona Beebe. They, along with Idonas two young daughters, made their home in California. Jim and Idona had three children, Little Jimmy, Ruby and Golden. They later, divorced. On Valentines Day 1958, Jim met Gloria Tauscher. They were married on November 7 th of that year and spent their "honeymoon" goose hunting in Springfield, Idaho. They were the love of each others life. After the birth of their son, Kevin Ray, in 1960, Jim moved his family to California where he worked as a heavy equipment operator at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard until his retirement. Jim and Gloria spent 56 wonderful years together, twenty-eight of those in Southern California. They moved back to Idaho in the late 80s to be closer to their family. Jim was a member of the American Legion and a life-long member of the Lakewood Elks. From childhood, Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He grew up hunting, fishing and camping. He always loved camping trips with his family. Jim was also an avid sports fan. Bowling was one of his favorite activities. He loved the Dodgers, Angels, Rams and USC. When he moved back to Idaho, his favorite teams changed to the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos. But even more than watching his favorite pro teams, he loved watching his kids and grandkids play. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Harvey and Paul; two sons, Little Jimmy and Golden "Bo" LeRoy and his daughter Linda Mclaughn. Jim is survived by his wife, Gloria of Chubbuck; his brother, Stan of Inkom; three daughters, Sandra (Vern) Burke, Ruby (Jim) Van Sickle and Terri (Richard) Mittelstedt all of Pocatello; his son, Kevin of Palmdale, Ca; his daughter-in-law, Diana Barrus; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. "We were all so lucky to have had him in our lives". The memorial service for Jim will be held at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID on Saturday morning, January 3, 2015 beginning with a gathering for family and friends at 10 AM with the service at 11 AM.
