Jean Matthew

d. February 23, 2012

Jean Miller Matthew peacefully passed from this life on February 23, 2012 of natural causes. She was born on July 1st, 1921 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Charles and Verona Miller. They moved to Green River, Wyoming when she was just two years old. Jean grew and attended schools in Green River where she described herself as the "big duck in the little pond." After attracting many suitors with her beauty and vivacious personality, Jean met the love of her life, William Matthew at a church dance and they married on New Years Eve in 1939. They welcomed their only child, Becky in 1946. Rock Springs, WY was the community they called home until William "Bill" was offered a job in Pocatello, Idaho as an electrician at the FMC plant. So they moved to the "big city" in 1959. Jean and Bill opened their homes and hearts to many extra kids through the years. Becky always brought friends to the house and it didn't take long before a multitude of teenagers were calling Jean and Bill, Mom and Dad. In Pocatello, Jean embarked on her career as a cosmetician. She enjoyed the associations and friendships that she created with her customers at Super Save, Okay's and Osco. It was easy to love Jean. She had many friendships that were developed over the years through bowling leagues, pinochle and bridge groups and their activity in the First Congregational Church. When Becky married Bart Parrish in 1964, they would eventually give Jean four grandchildren. They would become the focus of her life. Micki, Bill, Kristi and Carri, affectionately called their Grandmother, Nonny. Each of them believed they were her favorite. Nonny always had love to spare, so friends and cousins of her Grandchildren all called her Nonny too, and considered themselves part of her family. After the addition of 15 great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren, Jean was always amazed that one child could produce such a great posterity. Thank you to the staff of Elegant Living Residential and Creekside Hospice for their kind care. Jean is survived by her husband of 72 years, William W. Matthew, her daughter and son-in-law Becky and Bill Robinson, her four grandchildren and their spouses, Micki and Ferron Pincock, Bill and Ross Parrish, Kristi and Brad Curtis, and Carri and Brian Curtis, and her 18 great-grandchildren. Kira, Andrew (Lizzie) and Elena Ainscough, Britni, Morgann and Aimee Pincock, Jensen, Ian, Keegan and Liam Parrish, Mattison Parrish (Cole) Harding, Kaden, Bowen, Olivia and Dane Curtis, and Hadli, Taryl and Reece Curtis. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Blair Miller and Verona Olive Pitchford Miller, her sister Mildred Miller Zancanella and her son-in-law Bart J. Parrish. Funeral Services will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home at 11:00am, Friday, March 2nd. Family will receive guests at the same location, Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm, and one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
