Joy Bishop passed away on January 7, 2024. She was born July 21, 1931 in Star Valley, Wyoming to Charles and Elizabeth Haderlie. She was the youngest of five children, all who preceded her in death.
Joy would always talk of her younger days of trips to Pocatello and Idaho Falls with her father while hauling cheese from the valley. This was her happy place and her favorite subject. She was a cheerleader in High School and also sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Joy met her future husband George Bishop when he came to the valley with a construction crew. They married in 1955 and later had two children. Their son, George Shade and daughter, Renee. They all moved to Pocatello in 1964 to be near George's job. Joy accepted a position at Challenge cheese, later Kraft until she retired.
Her love for animals and the outdoors was enormous. Our tiny Mother was remembered for standing her ground at a picnic in Yellowstone National Park chasing away a mother bear and her cubs while everyone else beat feet to their nearby cars. She was very compassionate and gentle, and welcomed all critters into her home granted that "they had legs".
Joy is preceded in death by her Star Valley family; her husband, George; and her great-granddaughter, Justice Hope Bishop. She is survived by her two children, George S. Bishop (Darce Bishop), and Renee Trujillo (Robert Trujillo); four grandchildren, Amy Susan Dominguez (Tony Dominguez), Katie Elizabeth Merrick (Anthony J. Merrick), Candice Bishop (Burke Keller), Andrew Bishop (Rachel Bishop); and eleven wonderful great-grandchildren.
