Katherine "Katie" Millward

d. December 28, 2012

Katie Millward, 89, of Pocatello, left this earth, to be with her Father in Heaven, on Friday, December 28th, 2012. Katie was the youngest of twelve children to be born to Brigham Young and Mary Anne Pugmire, on April 8th, 1923, in Montpelier, Idaho. She grew up in Pocatello, where she was active in the LDS Church, school, and sports. She was an exceptional softball player in her day, and she loved coaching softball and volleyball with the youth, as sports director in her ward for many years. She worked for the Railroad, during the war, and later, as a ticket agent for the Greyhound Bus Depot, in Pocatello. Katie married her childhood sweetheart, Dean W. Millward, in the Logan temple, for time and eternity, on July 12th, 1945. They made their home in Pocatello, and raised seven children. They moved to Grace, Idaho, in 1969, until Dean retired several years later. Katie and Dean loved their retirement years, and spending time with their family and grandchildren. Katie loved dancing to the music of a band Dean played in, called the DESERT VARNISH. No one could jitter bug quite like Katie! As snowbirds, they enjoyed traveling. They made lifelong friendships, in Quartzite, Arizona, where they spent most of their winters, until Dean passed away in 2001. Katie was best known for her beautiful, warm and friendly smile. She always had a hug and kiss for everyone she met. She was dearly loved by all who knew her, and will be deeply missed. Katie was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, her husband, Dean W. Millward, and two sons, Eddie and Bruce Millward. She is survived by five children, Kenny Millward, of Fairfield, Idaho, Norma (David) Bird, NaConna (John) Gadish, and Mary Anne (Roger) Johnson, all of Pocatello, and Kathy (Ralph) Smith of Boise, Idaho, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral also at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Mountain View Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.Colonial-FuneralHome.com.
