POCATELLO - Ken Richard Bectell Sr., 67, passed away November 9, 2010. He was born to Ansil and Vada (Smith) Bectell on May 18, 1943. In his lifetime, he worked in an egg plant, He worked as a manager of a gas station, drove truck, worked in a nursing home; during which he delivered milk as a second job. He also worked in a paint store, which was incredible in itself, because he was color blind. He worked for the Southern Pacific and Northern Burlington Railroads. His job was setting railroad ties which involved swinging a sixteen pound sledge hammer all day. He was forced to retire early due to health reasons. Ken married Rebecca Roach January 26 th , 1962, they were later divorced. He married Kathy Gadbois November 9, 1972, she preceded in him in death. He then married Sherry L. Hillebrant September 18, 2010 in Pocatello, Idaho. Ken loved working for the railroad. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and wife, Sherry; all were important parts of his life. Ken enjoyed talking, telling jokes, and making people laugh, even if the joke was on him. Ken could spin yarns that were funny and light-hearted. Sometimes it was hard to tell which stories were yarns and which were the truth. At Christmas, Ken would engage playing Santa Clause, which he loved dearly. Ken is survived by his wife, Sherry, three children; Ken (Linda) Bectell Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karen (Dobie) Eslick of Sacramento, California, and Timothy (Carlie) Bectell Sr. of Sacramento, California. Four step-children; Herman Ray (Brenda) Roach Jr., Shawna (Reese) McRae, Selena (Wesley Olsen) Hall, and Timothy Pratt, 16 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 3 great-grandchildren on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Albert; a sister, Clara; and a son, Troy Albert Andurs; ex-wife, Rebecca; and his wife, Kathy. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Central Christian Church on the corner of Center and 8 th Street, Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made at Advantage Plus Credit Union at 2133 E.
