Lafe Hall

d. February 20, 2013

Lafe Jackson Hall, age 77, a longtime resident of Pocatello, ID, passed away due to natural causes surrounded by his loving family on February 17, 2013, while at home. He was born December 25, 1935, in Amby, Kentucky to Walter Hall and Lula Hatfield Hall along with eight brothers and three sisters. They lived and worked on the farm, which had a coal mine, during the war. In 1941, they moved to Pocatello, ID. He had a wonderful amateur boxing career from junior high through his time in the National Guard. He graduated Pocatello High School in 1955. While in high school he met the love of his life, Berta Lee Cox. They married June 11, 1955 and after fifty years of marriage they renewed their vows. They had two sons, Joseph Lafe Hall and Steve Jack Hall. His sons were always involved in sports. Lafe never missed a game and coached baseball for his youngest son and grandson. He was always the most supportive parent in the crowd. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for thirty-five years. He also taught Carman Apprentices for years. Lafe loved to fish and hunt all his life. After retirement his hobbies included President of the PFA in 1990. He was also a super golfer "Hole In One" at Highland in 1997, and was Southern Idaho Rangers "Idaho Preacher". Lafe became a minister and preached sermons at the Church of Christ. He officiated two of his grandchildren and three other couples. Lafe was a strong believer in the Bible passages. Ephesians 5 and 6 he would state it in this way, "If you want to live right, do it with our children. Take your children to church first and believe in God and Jesus. Amen." Lafe was preceded in death by son Joe Hall, parents Walter and Lula, brothers Stallard, James, Carl, Walter, Frank, who died at birth, John, and sister Virgie. Lafe is survived by his wife Berta Hall of 57 years, youngest son Steve Hall of Pocatello, and Florabell Kristaller of Ohio. He also has ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He always wanted us to remember to take care of our family. Memorial services will be on Friday, February 20 at 11 am at the Church of Christ, 3224 Hawthorne Rd. Special thanks to Encompass Home Health Care and Hospice workers Rod, Crystal, Cree, Roy, and Anna.
