Leroy James Wilson

d. July 20, 2014

Joyous music and laughter filled the heavens on July 20, 2014 when our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and fishing buddy, Leroy James Wilson, 80, reunited with his sweetheart Elaine. Leroy was born October 31, 1933 in Twin Falls, Idaho to James and Mae Reinbold Wilson. He was the oldest of five children and was a protector of his younger siblings, Jimmy, Marna, Darlene, and Barbara. Being an independent soul, Leroy, left home at an early age and found work in Pocatello. Some of his friends arranged a blind date for him with a high school girl named Elaine Candland. Little did they know that evening would begin a 61- year love affair. As Elaine needed to finish school, Leroy joined the Army. He carried a picture of his sweetheart his entire tour in Korea, and thankfully, returned home in January of 1956. Elaine turned 18, graduated from high school, and the couple married on August the 26th. They were later sealed in LDS Temple in Idaho Falls. Leroy and Elaine started their family in 1957, with their son, Mike. Two years later, three babies joined the Wilson family; Tammy in February, and twins, Jerry and Larry, in December. They had their hands full with four young children but still had room for one more son, Bill, who was born in 1963. Leroy joined the crew of FMC in October of 1956 retiring in 1997. He was a hardworking man and even after retirement, he drove truck for Denny's Wrecker Service. Leroy was also a proud member of the VFW Post 735 Honor Guard and devoted hours of service to other veterans. Like most Idaho boys, Leroy enjoyed the great outdoors spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. We will surely miss our fishing buddy and we will never find a better chauffer for our deer hunting trips. Leroy is survived by his children Mike Wilson, Tammy (Darren) Jacobs, Jerry (Debbie) Wilson, Larry (Rhonda) Wilson, Bill (DeAnn) Wilson, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, his parents, sister Marna, and grandson Tyler. Funeral services will be Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11 AM at the LDS Independence Ward Building, 4773 Independence Rd, Chubbuck, ID. 83202. Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6-7 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. 208-233-1500 and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. 83204. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the VFW Post 735 in care of Lynn Hebdon, 2130 Sandy Lane, Pocatello, Idaho 83204.
