Lewis Kent Hansen

May 14, 1945 — June 25, 2022

Lewis (Kent) Hansen was born to Rosezella and James Hansen Jr. in Soda Springs ID, on May 14, 1945. He was the 13th of 15 children on a farm in the Bench/Niter area near Grace Idaho. His siblings: brother William James Hansen, sister Mary Lou McNeil (William), sister Luella Muir (George), sister Madaline Maybe (Keith), brother Cornelius “Dee” Hansen (June), sister Lois Thornock (Verden), sister Iver “Delane” Bearss (Robert), brother Delmar Hansen (Rose), sister Anna “Arlene” Ulibarri (Federico), sister Alice Gunter (Lawrence), sister Audrey Halsey (James), brother Rulon Hansen (Shirley), sister Vella Carlberg (Stan), and sister Vera Davis. Kent is survived by Lois, Delmar, Arlene, Alice, Audrey, Rulon, and Vella.

When he was 12 years old his mother passed away. This was, of course, very difficult for him and his family. Kent helped his father in the family painting business until 3 years later when his father passed away leaving him and his siblings orphaned. He was devastated with the passing of each of his parents. Kent lived with his sister Madeline and her family for a while before moving in with James and Donna Rae Mabey in the Pebble Creek area near Bancroft. James & Donna Rae were very influential in his life.

He fulfilled a childhood dream when he served a mission in the Southwest British Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints after studying at Ricks College for a year. As soon as he arrived back from the mission field, he was enrolled to go to school at Idaho State University where he met and married Linda Anderson, the love of his life. During the Vietnam war, he served his country in the Army and was stationed in Anchorage Alaska. After the war he returned to Idaho State University where he studied math and worked for ISU as a computer programmer and eventually became the 1st Student Director of the Computer Department for ISU. He was offered a job as a computer programmer for FMC Corporation until they shut down more than 20 years later. He was very well known at the FMC plant. He then ran a process controls consulting company when he was recruited to work for INL until he retired 8 years later at the age of 67.

Kent worked hard and never complained about a demanding career and job. He provided well for his family, but not without sacrifice. He was an involuntary car mechanic, home repair, and fix-it man. He knew or figured out how to fix pretty much everything. Kent worked hard to raise a good family that was close to each other and close to God. He and Linda had 9 children. He is survived by 8 of them: Ladawn Henry (Bill), Sirena Heninger (Scott), Barry Hansen (Breanna), Bryan Hansen (Cassandra), Christine Bangerter (Shane), Sondra Hansen, Debra King (Errol), and Aaron Hansen (Shannalee). His son Brent (Emilie) passed away in 2012. Emilie has since re-married to Dennis Hansen. Kent has 56 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Kent loved being with his family. He was at family events whenever he possibly could be. He was a devoted Dad, Grandpa, loyal Spouse, & dedicated Son. He loved anything outdoors: hunting, fishing, boating, backpacking, etc. He had a tradition of an annual backpacking trip with his kids to a high mountain lake, often for a week at a time where everyone made wonderful memories.

Kent was also a very spiritual person and a man of great faith. Scripture study was common in his life and his knowledge of the scriptures showed that. There was communion with The Spirit in his everyday life. He served in his church in many different callings including Young Men’s President, Elders Quorum President, Ward Finance Clerk, Stake Sunday School President, Bishop twice, Bishopric Councilor, Temple Worker, and High Councilman. After retirement he and Linda served a mission in the Greece, Athens Mission in Larnaca Cyprus.

Kent is greatly cherished, and we look forward to being with him again.
