Lonnie Ray Ramsey

April 17, 1936 — July 27, 2019

Lonnie Ray Ramsey, 83, passed away peacefully July 27th, 2019 following an extended illness.

Lonnie was born April 17, 1936 in Springfield, Missouri to Raymond Charles and Alberta Gladys (Davis) Ramsey. He moved to California at an early age where he attended and graduated from Lynwood High School and Compton Jr. College. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and wanted to become a missionary after serving in the military.

Lonnie entered the U.S. Air Force on August 20, 1958 and faithfully served his country until he retired from the military on November 30, 1978. Missions, Honor, the flag and patriotism were things that held great meaning to him throughout his life. Upon his retirement he had hoped to return to Japan to continue in his church bus ministry where he was the Bus Pastor picking up and dropping off children to Sunday School, but the Lord had different plans. He instead moved his family to California where he served the Lord in his local church doing whatever he could.

Lonnie married Chen Ching Mei, Suzy to those who knew her, on December 28, 1970 in Taiwan. They moved to Idaho in November of 2005 from Riverside, California following their two daughters. His heart was broken when she passed away on August 6, 2011.

Lonnie was a faithful member of Pioneer Bible Baptist Church in Chubbuck. He loved serving the Lord, working with his hands, metal detecting, fishing and writing poetry.

Lonnie is survived by his daughters, Dianna (Richard) Harris, of Idaho Falls; Lonetta (Chad) Pitcher, of Pocatello; a step-son Ja Tsai, of Taiwan, 2 step daughters Me Mia, of Taiwan and Ling-Ling, of Houston Texas, a sister, Ethel Jean (Sam) Nash of Burnsville, NC; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his closest friend Abe Luca, of American Falls.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 41 years, Chen Ching Mei (Suzy) Ramsey; his parents, Raymond and Alberta Ramsey.

Funeral services for Lonnie will be held at 11:00am, Saturday August 3, 2019 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, with Pastor Thomas Holder officiating. Military Rites will be provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
