Lowell Lee Hill

Lowell Lee Hill, 84, a life long Pocatello resident, passed on peacefully at his home on Monday, August 10th 2009. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by family at his passing.
Lowell was the third child born to George Francis and Georgia Lee Hill. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Lila Martin, Wallace Hill, and Bruce Hill.
Lowell grew up in Blackfoot and Pocatello, where he helped out with farm work and milk routes while attending Pocatello High School. He then volunteered for military service in World War II, at age 17 before completing his high school graduation.
Lowell served in the Navy in 1943 as a Medical Corpsman. He then attended Marine Corps boot camp and transferred into the Marine Corps for the remainder of his service before his discharge in 1946. During his military service, he served in several South Pacific campaigns, and was awarded several military service medals, awards and victory medals.
Lowell met Lorraine Iris Tate on a blind date to go roller-skating while home on leave in December. They were married on August 19, 1946, when Lowell returned from the war.
He began working as a butcher with his father George, in the Bargain Barn Supermarket from 1946 to 1950. He then worked as a medical laboratory technologist in 1950 at St. Anthony Community Hospital until he opened his own “Hill Clinical Laboratory” on Yellowstone Avenue and later move his Lab to the Women and Children's Clinic where he provided services for the clinic as well as Bannock Hospital until his retirement in 1990.
Lowell enjoyed rock hunting, golfing, home building and remodeling, oil painting, gardening, cooking, camping and especially fishing.
He enjoyed visiting with his many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was always ready to help in building and remodeling their homes and businesses.
As a member of the Marine Corps League, he contributed much time and effort along with others to building the South East Idaho Veterans Memorial at Ross Park.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Lorraine Iris Hill, Pocatello; his seven children, Gary & Gayle Hill, Spokane, Wash., Gina Jilot & Ron Salmans, Pocatello, Richard & Sherry Hill, Idaho Falls, Kathy & Ken Gates, Pocatello, Kollene & Bruce Cranor, Chubbuck, Phillip & Carol Hill, Pocatello, Lorena & Bob Bennett, Portland, Ore; his 22 grandchildren; and his 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, George L Hill, one daughter, Janie Sue Hill, and two granddaughters, Kimiko Marie Parker (Jilot) and Cami Jo Cranor.
