Mervin A. Erickson

d. May 25, 2014

Mervin Arthur Erickson, 81, of Chubbuck, passed away May 25, 2014, after a 10-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born September 11, 1932, in Salt Lake City, the second of five children to Arthur and Norma Erickson. He graduated from Bear River H.S. in 1951, and worked on his father's farm and various construction jobs until 1954, when he was called to serve in the LDS Southwest Indian Mission. Later, while working at Thiokol Chemical Corporation, he met a coworker who became the love of his life, and he and Leahmae Waldron were married on June 10, 1960, in the Logan, Utah, temple. Merv worked for the Idaho Department of Transportation for 25 years, and farmed for most of his life. A cowboy at heart, he enjoyed riding horses, raising cattle, hunting, camping, and square dancing. As a member of the LDS church, he served faithfully in numerous positions and played church basketball for many years. Merv loved his wife and family above all, and was a trusted friend to many. He is survived by Leahmae, his wife of 54 years; six children, Carol Ann (Stan) Porter, Denise Nelson, Douglas (Genea) Erickson, Yvonne (Jason) Bohne, Pamela (Kory) Brown, and Jeffrey (Emily) Erickson; 21 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his sisters, LaRue and Rolayne; and his brother, William. Merv is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol. His family thanks Heritage Hospice and Friends and Family Home Care for their dedicated support during the past several months. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at the LDS chapel on Hawthorne and Chubbuck Road in Chubbuck.
