Nina E. Bitton

d. May 26, 2013

Nina Ellen Barnhart Bitton passed away at the age of 92 on May 26, 2013 after a long and happy life. She was born in Teton, Idaho on December 9, 1920 to Felix and Carrie Barnhart. She was the 5 th of 6 children. Her parents, brother Harrison Barnhart, and sisters Essie Jacobsen, Fern Steed, Grace Wheeler and Vivian Barnhart have all preceded her in death. Nina went to schools in Menan, Ammon and Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1939. After 7 years of "courting" she married Glen L. Bitton, her one and only sweetheart all her life on October 18, 1941. They had 65 wonderful married years together living in Pocatello in the little house on Kraft Road that Glen built for them. Glen passed away in 2007. They had two children, a son Dennis in 1943 and a daughter Sue in 1954. Nina worked at various sales clerk jobs in her younger years, at Kress's and People Store. After that she worked as a custodian and Custodial Foreman at ISU. In her last working years she worked at The Hilton Inn. She made a lot of friends wherever she worked. Nina enjoyed people, young and old! She loved to visit and she especially loved to tell jokes. (Some were cleaner than others.) She loved to cook and especially bake. Anyone who came to visit was treated with homemade food and plenty to drink from Nina and Glen! They attended many of the ISU and almost all of the Pocatello High School sporting events. They would wear the red and blue Poky High beanies that Nina had knit. Nina was an expert at knitting, and in her lifetime probably made hundreds of socks, scarves, sweaters, sweatshirts, stocking caps and Christmas stockings just to name a few. Nina loved to play cards , especially Bridge. She did so for many years and made many dear friends there. By far though, her favorite thing to do was go dancing with Glen. From their early years as teenagers they would find some way to scrape the money up to go dancing! They continued to dance at the Elks lodge in Pocatello in their later years as well. Nina was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In her later years she was active and read the scriptures and many other books. Nina is survived by her son Dennis (Linda) Bitton of Idaho Falls, Idaho and daughter Sue (Kevin) Hansen of Meridian, Idaho. The 9 grandchildren are John (Michelle) Bitton, of Las Cruzes, N.M, Mike Bitton of Portland, Oregon, Melonie (Alan)Thatcher, of Manassas Park, Virgina, Nina Jo Hook, of Phoenix, Arizona, David (Tomie) Bitton of Yuba City, CA, Chad (Lindsay) Hansen of Meridian, Idaho, Andy (Jennifer) Hansen of Meridian, Idaho and Dusty Hansen of Boise, Idaho. Glen and Nina also have 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grand daughters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Foothill LDS Ward, 225 Oakwood Drive, with Bishop Ryan Hancock conducting. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31 st at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Avenue, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning prior to the services at the church.
