Orval Ray Pharris

March 1, 1926 — March 5, 2016

Orval Ray Pharris, 90, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from natural causes. He was born March 1, 1926 in Pocatello, Idaho the son of Alfred and Lily (Clegg) Pharris. In their early years his brothers and he liked to roam the foot hills and swim in the local canals. Ray left high school early to join the US Navy. He served his time aboard the USS Wadsworth in the Pacific during WWII. After his discharge he spent many years in Orofino, ID. Orval then married Jean and they had three children together, Sherry Ray, Robert and Jerry. After their divorce he joined the US Army and most of this time he spent in Korea. After his return to Pocatello, he married Helen this union brought forth two children, Dan Ray and Theresa. They were later divorced. On December 4, 1954, Ray started his service with the Pocatello Police Department, and on December 21, 1979 he retired as a Lieutenant. In January of the following year he became a Court Marshal for Bannock County. After twelve years he was able to retired. Ray once again decided to go back to work and did so for a period of two years as Security in the Federal Building then went back to his job as Court Marshal for a four year additional tenure. Ray finally felt it was time to retire for good, so he did just that. Ray had then met and married Dian. They had 53 wonderful years together. Ray passed away with his loving wife at his side. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dan Ray and daughter, Theresa; half-sister Sybal; three brothers, Don, Theo and Oscar; sister, Ruth Jensen. His survivors include his best friend and devoted wife Dian of 53 years, three Children, Sherry Ray of Orofino, ID, Robert (Jolene) of Las Vegas, NV and Jerry (Bonnie) of Lewiston, ID; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 10-11 am for a viewing at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho 83201. Graveside services, with Military Honors, will then follow at 11 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83204.
