Paul Carl Koenig

July 16, 2020, Paul passed on to our heavenly father while on hospice at the Boise VA medical center.

Paul was a Marine veteran and served on the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam war. He never liked to settle in one place for long, therefore, his civilian career included jobs where he traveled, such as truck and bus driving. Tour bus driving which was his favorite, he made friends easily and loved interacting with the people who came from all over doing the tours. Paul finally retired in Boise, Idaho living at the Samaritan Village. He loved the Boise mountain trails where he would run and walk for hours, which he did up until the time his ALS diagnosis prevented him from doing so. He also loved his bible and listening to his early morning Christian radio shows which was a main source of comfort to him as his disease progressed.

Paul was predeceased by his parents William Koenig and Katherine Hughes and his older brother, William. He is survived by his daughter, Valarie and grandsons Chance and Dillon, his sisters Susann Kirlin (Joseph) and Anne Griffith as well as his nieces and nephew, Katherine and Joey Kirlin and April Hawkins. He will be missed by his long- time friend, Fred Doubleday as well as the many friends he made at the Samaritan Village.

As a final act of kindness, Paul requested his body be donated to science to help further the study of ALS. A memorial service will be held at the Samaritan Village, date to be determined at this time. A memorial gift in Paul's name can be made to the National ALS organization.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Samaritan Village Apartments II 3360 N. Collister Drive in Boise, Idaho.
