Philip James Gibson, 77, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at home with his family in Pocatello, Idaho. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho to David James and Verda Ellis Gibson on December 30, 1938. He married Patricia Ellen Olson June 6, 1958 in the Logan, Utah Temple. Phil and Pat were blessed with 5 children. Pat passed away suddenly following the birth of their last daughter on April 13, 1971. Phil worked at Idaho State University for most of his career where he was able to retire in 1999. While working at ISU, he married a high school friend, Sharon Rowe. They were able to grow very close through shared interests in golf, fishing, and family. After both retired, they spent their time with family and traveling back and forth between their home in Pocatello and their winter home in Arizona. Philip is survived by his wife, Sharon Rowe Gibson, Pocatello; children, Philip Chris (Jill) Gibson, Marysville, WA; Valerie Gaye (Valden) Ellis, Blackfoot; Kelly Charles (Donette) Gibson, Firth; and Patricia Ellen Gibson Schiers, Boise. Jeanne Parker Gibson, daughter-in-law, Pocatello; step-daughters, Jodi (Ron) Sensenbach, Pocatello; Chris Ann Carlsen, Ruidoso, NM; Amy (David) Alder, West Jordan, UT; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott David Gibson; sister, Marylyn Thomas Rhoads; and brother, David Ellis Gibson. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Travis Nielsen and the team from Encompass Hospice for their many hours of care and service. Thanks to Dr. Brad Burton for taking such good care over the years and being such a good friend. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Highland 4th Ward Chapel, 2300 Butte St., Pocatello, ID with Bishop D. Jones officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, April 27, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello, Idaho 83201, 208-233-1500 and prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
