Preston Michael Inglis

August 17, 1998 — July 6, 2021

Preston Michael Inglis, 22, passed away on July 6, 2021.

Preston was born on August, 17th, 1998 in Phoenix Arizona. Preston was incredibly advanced early on and had such a big personality. He was the first born between Misdy Young and Mike Inglis. Then came Christopher, Jacob, and Tammy. The siblings were close growing up and remained that way throughout their lives. Although everyone lived in different states, they were sure to remain in contact and continued supporting each other from afar.

In 2008 Preston moved to Tacoma, Washington where his grandparents Sue and Dave Inglis lived. Preston’s grandparents were a big part of his life. Their relationship was significant and there was always a special place in his heart for them. Anything Preston needed, Sue was just a call away and she would save the day. Whether it be good or bad, she was there with open arms. Sue is very gracious and has a huge heart.

In 2017 Preston moved to Brigham City, Utah with his mother Misdy. Misdy was Preston’s #1 fan, always cheerfully rooting for him. The two of them have shared a very special bond that will last forever. He sure was a mama‘s boy. No matter what, they were there for each other with unlimited love and without judgment. Misdy has always said “The only two that have shown me unconditional love are Preston and Missy.” (Missy is Misdy’s dog)

Misdy is a selfless, brave, honest, and remarkable woman. She’s very rare. Preston learned all of his morals and beliefs from her and it showed beneficially.

While in Utah, Preston met Justin (Jayd) Demott. They automatically hit it off. They acted like brothers and they did everything together. If one of them needed something, the other came running. Jayd was the first friend Preston had that became more like family, he loved Jayd dearly. The two decided they no longer wanted to live in Utah anymore, so Jayd called Tyler Perkins to come get them and bring them to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Tyler, without even knowing Preston, welcomed Preston into his home. Tyler and Preston's friendship quickly evolved. Tyler remained dependable, genuine, and enlightening. He always had Preston’s best interest in mind, which meant they didn’t always see eye to eye. These boys would fist fight then hug it out after. Preston loved Tyler deeply and, In a way, looked up to him. If Preston had one solid person to call, it would be Tyler. The three boys had a very admirable friendship.

In 2018 Preston moved to Pocatello where he met his love, Torie. At the time, both of them were in dark places and meeting each other was the best thing that could’ve happened. Ever since the first day they met they were inseparable. After just a week the two had already moved in together. Both of them decided it was time to get clean and sober, and start a better life. While doing so, Preston was introduced to Torie's life long besties Derek and Angelica Girse. These two took Torie and Preston into their home and supported them wholeheartedly. Derek and Preston became very close and were together every chance they got to play video games, go on adventures, etc. Preston and Derek had a well-built, secure friendship and loved each other very much. Preston was forever grateful for the both of them for being so accepting and genuine. He would do anything for Angelica, Derek and their kids.

Preston and Torie’s mom, Rachael Slaughter, had a strong connection and bond. No matter what terms Preston and Torie were on she was kind and generous to Preston and remained in close contact with him. She always had his back and they loved each other.

Preston was also very close with Torie’s grandparents Lorrie and David White. They taught Preston and Torie how to budget, be adults, and so many other essential things for everyday use. They were always there no matter the day or time. Preston looked up to David and made use of all the knowledge he engraved into them. All of Torie’s family loved Preston like their own and vise versa.

During the time Preston and Torie were staying with Angelica and Derek, they found out that Torie was pregnant and they were so excited, nervous, and scared. Soon after this they moved into their first apartment together. Preston and Torie felt so fortunate. For the first time in both of their lives they felt at home. The love Preston and Torie generated was rare and authentic. They took care of each other and it came so naturally.

On July 9th, 2019 Mila Rae was born. This little girl Is absolutely flawless. They loved her more than they knew was possible. She made their little family whole. Preston was an amazing father and he worshiped Mila and Torie. Everything was perfect. Preston was extremely passionate and determined. When he was set on something, he wouldn’t stop until it was done. He was admiringly generous, selfless, forgiving, kind, empathetic, confident, loyal, trustworthy, optimistic, the list goes on and on. No matter what, his morals never changed and his intentions were pure.

February 2021 is when things started to devolve. Preston and Torie split up. Preston and Torie both had so much going on in their lives, they weren’t really able to pay attention to each other. Torie had no idea Preston had started using again until the night she got a call from the police saying, “Torie we need you to come get your daughter. Preston Inglis has overdosed and has no pulse.”

No sugar Coating from this point forward:

It doesn’t matter the length of time a person stays clean and sober, that drug void never goes away and you have to nurture it daily to ensure it’s kept at bay. It’s a constant internal war that disrupts your soul and invades your mental space. How can you compete with a substance abuse? You can’t. If one is actively using, there is no competition. Tragically, addiction always wins. It is a literal demon that attaches itself to you and you spend the rest of your life trying to fight it off.

This drug pandemic we are living in is horrifying, assassinating people of all ages and walks of life. Addiction has no mercy and the only outcomes are sobriety or eventually fatality. It drives you away from the people and things that hold most value to you. Your only priority becomes your next fix even if that means stealing, lying, and betraying those you love. Not only is the addict suffering, but everyone else around them as well. Now the only way Mila will know her daddy is by scrapbooks, and stories told.

Addiction - you’re like a hostage who has developed an irrational affection for your captor. They can abuse you, torture you, even threaten to kill you, and you'll still remain inexplicably and disturbingly loyal.

So please: Love deeper, hold others closer, and don’t ever say anything you might regret because tomorrow is never promised. Appreciate what you have now, before it’s too late.

Preston is an angel that was sent to earth only temporarily. While he was with us, he impacted so many lives with his radiating, uplifting, inspiring and angelic light. Preston Was Too Precious To Stay.

With infinite amount of love and gratitude, until we meet again.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor at a later date.
