Robert Davies passed away at his home in Pocatello on November 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born the third of nine children to Maggie and Johnathon Davies on April 23, 1927. His birth took place at the family homestead in the Ririe-Shelton area. After graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1945, Bob enlisted in the US Navy and served through the end of World War II.
Upon returning to Idaho, he met Barbara Jean Parrish. They were married on April 17, 1948. They had four sons and shared sixty-nine years of marriage. They settled in Pocatello in 1948 when Bob began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked for the railroad for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1988.
Bob lived a rich and full life. He dearly loved his family and friends, and he was dearly loved in return. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping, and river rafting. Bob enjoyed bowling and he bowled on the same bowling team for fifty years. He also enjoyed square dancing, golfing, gardening, and he and Barb spent many winters in Arizona. He enjoyed reading, and he particularly loved history. He was a member of the LDS Church and a life-long Democrat.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alan, Gerald, and Donald; two sisters, Faye Bischoff and Marjean Hansen. He is survived by three siblings, Kay (Juanita) Davies, Martha Poole, and Francine (Ted) George; Barb, his wife of sixty-nine years; four sons, Jeff Davies (Don Merrill); Denis (Sheri) Davies, Todd (Annette) Davies, Boise, and Ron (Trish) Davies; nine grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Wilks Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45. Interment with Military Rites will be held at the Ririe-Shelton cemetery.
Bob was very proud of his grandson Russell Davies who recently founded Professional Transformation Sports Development (PTSD), a nonprofit organization that helps fellow veterans with PTSD through outdoor sports. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to ptsdveteranathletes.org.
Condolences and memories may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab above.
