Roberta Ann Payne

February 1, 1944 — December 31, 2022

Roberta Ann Burke Payne was called to rejoin with her loved ones who had gone before her. She departed early on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2022.

Roberta was born on February 1, 1944 to James and Tressa Burke in Nampa, ID. She was the second of four children. Revella was her big sister, and Jim and Tom came later.

Her father passed away when she was six years old. Her mother later married Russell Frank Davis.

She grew up in the Pocatello and Blackrock areas. Roberta attended schools in Pocatello and Marsh Valley.

On December 30, 1960, Roberta married Kenneth Gilbert Payne, the love of her life. They moved to Bancroft, Idaho to start their family. They had four children. Their oldest came in 1961 and did not survive birth. Jodi, Judy and Buddy followed.

Roberta always had an entrepreneurial business sense and looked for that opportunity. She worked in Soda Springs at the pizza place, the grocery store, and eventually the bank. She met a business owner who had a store in Inkom and was looking to sell. Her entrepreneurial business desire was interested. Roberta and Ken bought the Village Mart in 1979 and moved the family to Inkom where they were successful for the next 18 years.

On September 15, 1984, they lost Buddy in a car accident. It was devastating and they leaned on each other to make it through.

Their family grew and they had four grandchildren; Justin, Natalie, Dillon and Stephanie.

In 1996, they decided to retire. They spent time traveling, camping, and enjoying family and life.

After 42 years of marriage, Ken passed away in 2003.

Roberta later met a wonderful man, Ralph Richard, and they spent almost the next two decades together.

She loved spending time with her family. Over her life, she enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, car shows, and spending time with everyone she loved.

Roberta is survived by two daughters, Jodi (Steve) Osterhout of Inkom, ID, Judy (Aaron) Collins of Arco, ID; four grandchildren, Justin Osterhout of Kentucky, Natalie (Daniel Jessie) Siler of Arco, ID, Stephanie (J.P.) Shook of Pocatello, ID, and Dillon Collins of Pocatello, ID; ten great-grandchildren, Jazmine Adriana Siler of Arco, ID, Jesee Darla Siler of Arco, ID, McKenzie Hannah Siler of Arco, ID, Caytlin Maye Twiss, Kenneth Michael Twiss, Alyssa Nichole Powell, Danielle Lynn Shook, Ethan Andrew Shook, Zachery Daniel Siler of Arco, ID and Kayden J Siler of Arco, ID; one great-great-grandson Myles Patrick Burt; brother, James William (Carolyn) Burke of Montrose, CO; sister, Revella Pratt of Inkom, Id; and Ralph Richard of Inkom, ID and his wonderful family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gilbert Payne; her parents, Jim and Tressa Burke; her youngest brother, Thomas Edward Burke; two sons, Baby Payne and Buddy Payne; and her step-father, Russell Davis.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Enhabit Home Health for the amazing care they gave Roberta. Mom especially enjoyed the time spent with Carson Smith.
