Ronald Meikle

December 25, 1920 — March 16, 2011

Linel Ronald Meikle, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 16, 2011. He was born on December 25, 1920 in Rigby, Idaho to Linel and Ida Meikle. A few years later they settled in Bedford, Wyoming. There the family lived until he was 14, his mother died and they moved back to Thornton, Idaho. He resided there until his marriage to Arnita Hunsacker in 1941 and the couple moved to Rexburg, Idaho. Together they had five children; Ronald Meikle, Burdette Meikle, Garth Meikle, Launa Taylor and Alan Meikle. Ronald and Arnita were later divorced.

In September of 1964 he married Mavis Boyce-McCain and they lived in both the Pocatello and Inkom areas where they had Robert Ka McCain, Tina Kay McCain, Maryls Jean Meikle and Destry Gene Meikle. In 1980 they moved to Norman, Oklahoma until their return to Chubbuck in 2008.

Ronald served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, during World War II. During his time in the military he earned several medals including the America Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the High Priest Group Leadership and in the Sunday School Presidency. He also served a year long mission in Oklahoma from 1998 to 1999.

Growing up, he loved being in the mountains, climbing hills and running free with his siblings. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting in younger days. He enjoyed art and loved painting mountains and wildlife. He loved spending time with his family and gardening.

He is survived by; his wife, Mavis Meikle, Chubbuck; sons, Ron (Beverly) Meikle, St. Anthony, Burdette (Judy) Meikle, Rexburg, Garth (Nancy) Meikle, Rexburg; daughter Launa (Randy) Taylor, Shelley; sons, Alan (Kay) Meikle, Roy, UT Robert Ka (Wendy) McCain, Pocatello; daughters, Tina Kay (Tom) Serlo, Norman, OK, Marlys Bauder, Clinton, UT; son, Destry (Chrischelle) Meikle, Norman, OK; twenty eight grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; his father, Linel Summers Meikle; mother, Ida Elizabeth Merritt Meikle; sister, Wanda Dunn; brother Emery Meikle and two grandsons.

The family would like to thank the Chubbuck 2nd Ward Relief Society and friends for their continuous flow of food and concern. We would also like to thank Bishop Kim Guymon and Wilks Funeral Home for their wonderful display of care and compassion.
