Ruth Ormond

d. February 15, 2012

POCATELLO - Ruth Elvona Ormond, 98, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Ruth lived all 98 years in beautiful Idaho. Born in La Belle, Idaho to Orian and Elva Smout, Ruth graduated from Rigby High School in 1933. She married Enos Vernal Ormond June 21, 1933 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. Ruth and Vernal met at a church dance when she was 16 and he was 18. They dated three years mainly attending dances. These were the early years of the Depression. Movies were 25 cents; candy bars, 5 cents; popcorn, 5 cents. They could attend a movie for less than a dollar, but Ruth said dollars were hard to get since work and money were scarce. Ruth and Vernal farmed in Clark, Rigby and Monteview, Idaho. Through the years they raised grain, hay, cattle, potatoes, and children. Farming was a family affair. In addition to their money crops, Ruth and Vernal had fruit trees, a vegetable garden and a beautiful flower garden. They always shared their produce with family and friends. In 1975 Ruth and Vernal moved to Moreland, Idaho where Ruth continued to work in a Family History Library, substitute in the Snake River High School Library, make quilts, paint with oils and pastels, and make new friends. Ruth and Vernal served in the Idaho Falls Temple baptistery for nine years. Ruth's mind was sharp even as her body failed. The Marshall Public Library supplied her with reading material, which she always appreciated. She loved reminding them that she did not need the large print! For Christmas 2010 she received a laptop computer from her family and tried her best to keep up with e-mails at age 97. Vernal passed away April 21,1998. Ruth is survived by her children, Gayle Moore (Ralph, deceased) of Nampa, Idaho; Errol Ormond (Jacquelyn) of Pocatello, Idaho; Steve Ormond (Sherry) of Burley, Idaho, and a sister, Arlenna Hoopes. Ruth enjoyed the love and respect of 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. In addition to Vernal, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret; another daughter who was stillborn; her parents; two sisters and a brother. Ruth's family gratefully acknowledges the care and concern of the staff at Caring Hearts Assisted Living Center. Daren West was always patient and attentive along with others who Ruth called her "girls." Ruth had a comfortable home at Caring Hearts for almost four years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the L D S Humanitarian Fund or the Patron Temple Attendance Fund. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Blackfoot West Stake Center, 101 N. 900 W, with Bishop Randy Lee officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will follow services at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
