Ruth Tyler Christiansen

d. May 21, 2018

Ruth Tyler Christiansen, 92, went home to her Heavenly Father on May 21, 2018. Ruth was born on December 28, 1925 to Dorus Harvey Tyler and Lenora Sarah Christina Davidson Tyler. She is 5th child of 10; Louise, Doris, Raymon, Reed, Ruth, Lynn, Dale, Ted, Glenn, and Rosella. Ruth Grew up in the depression and learned to do for herself. She was well versed in the saying "use it up, wear it out, or do without." She lived this motto and taught it to her children. Her mother read to the children at night. When Ruth started school, there was a library one block out of her way. She would go to the library daily and check out books, just to have them read that night and returned the next day. She was an avid reader all her life. While in High School, her girlfriend set her up on a date. There she met her sweetheart, Lowell G Christiansen. They became engaged in November 1940 and Lowell left for the service in January 1941. While Lowell was away, Ruth graduated from Pocatello High School in May 1945, worked for Garret Freight Lines and started singing with a group called "Victory Sweethearts." This group traveled all over the area giving patriotic and religious programs. She was also in the Idaho Falls Temple for the dedication. Shortly after the dedication, Lowell returned from military service and were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 17, 1945. They had five children and lived in Cornish, Utah, and Pocatello, Idaho all their married life. Ruth continued her education by attending Idaho State University in cosmetology, and by attending different classes that she was interested in all around the country. She later earned her Masters in Nutrition and worked for years on her Doctorate. Ruth had a beauty shop in her home so she could still keep an eye on all the kids. Ruth and Lowell loved to travel. They went to Germany in 1973, and enjoyed seeing Cheryl and her young family stationed over there. They built a motor home that was nicknamed the monster to travel in and they toured the country with Lowells sister and brother-in-law, Lois and LaMar Olsen. Lowell died in January 1983 while Ruth was in California attending a class. Life was different after Lowell died and Ruth spent it in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ. She set up church libraries in four different buildings including the LDS Institute building on ISU campus. She worked as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple, Data Processing, served a proselyting mission in New Zealand, Family History mission in Salt Lake, Temple worker in St. George, and has served in all the auxiliaries in the church. Ruth would go to the nursing homes and play the piano for the residents. She also loved to sing and was in the Mothers Choir that sang in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. She was in the ward choir and later in life sang with the senior citizen group call the Silver Chords. Ruth loved music and played the piano and organ, and insisted that her children learn to play an instrument. She is survived by her brother, Glenn (Loa) Tyler, Pocatello, ID; sister, Rosella (Ronald) Boman, Logan UT; children, Gerald Lowell (Rosemary) Christiansen, Lehi UT, Peggy Ruth (Calvin Boyd) Sorenson, Marysville, WA, Cheryl Neilsen, Chubbuck, ID, Patricia (Ray Dean) Griffin, Pocatello, ID, Coleen (Robert) Thomas, Moreland, ID; 28 grandchildren, and 95 great-grandchildren; with 2 on the way.
