Sally Jean Jones

July 15, 1930 — September 29, 2022

Sally Jean Jones passed away peacefully on September 29, 2022, in the loving arms of her family. She was born July 15, 1930, to Elias Bakken Hanson and Annette Lindquist Hanson in Elbow Lake Minnesota. She was raised in Fergus Falls, Minnesota with her four older siblings: Barbara, Colleen, Patricia and Donald.


She attended St. Cloud College and Idaho State University where she majored in education. She spent her first year of teaching in Great Fall, Montana. This is where she met Gordon Francis Jones at a USO dance. They were later married in Fairfield, California on December 4, 1953. She and Gordon had 3 children: Gordon Bryan Jones (Karla), Kristine Annette Cottle and Cheryl Marie Archuleta. They enjoyed a long loving marriage for 69 years this coming December.


She taught for 30 years of which 27 years were spent teaching Math at Alameda Junior High, in Pocatello, Idaho. She enjoyed many activities including: golf, skiing, rafting, biking, crafting and reading. She also truly enjoyed organizing family reunions and group activities with friends.


She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was highly respected for always looking out for and including others.


She is survived by: her husband Gordon, her children Bryan, Kristine and Cheryl, her 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her 4 siblings and many close friends.


A viewing will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 12 pm to 1 pm at Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Graveside services will follow the viewing starting at 2 pm at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
