Shirley Ann Whittier

Shirley Ann Whittier, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 2, 2023, leaving a legacy of love and vibrant energy that will forever be remembered by those who knew her. She was 88 years old.

Shirley was born on October 23, 1935, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Lydia Knoblich and Albert Berreth. Shirley married her lifelong partner Karl Whittier, on April 11, 1953, in Rockland, Idaho. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Charles Whittier (Karen), Vanessa Wyler, Dr. Timothy Whittier (Diann), Dr. Melissa Herzog (Steve), and Sean Whittier (Pei-I). She was a proud grandmother of 14 and a great-grandmother to 26. Shirley's dedication to her family was unwavering. She was always checking in with family members, to see if they needed anything, and to gather any news; and making sure everyone was in the loop. She had crafts and activities prepared for when grandkids visited, getting as much fun out of the activities as the children.

Shirley was a woman with a deep love of all people. When not checking on family, she would be visiting neighbors, making sure their needs were met. Her work as a census taker and a restaurant owner/operator were all about the people. She enjoyed her travels abroad, getting to experience new sights and foods. She loved getting to know new people and seeing the world in a new light.

Shirley lived life to the fullest, with a twinkle in her eye and a mischievous sense of humor. Her wide range of interests included yard sales, where every Saturday in the warmer months you could assume she was out finding bargains. She would often don a specific outfit to secure the best deals. She was a prolific quilter and cook

. It wasn’t a Whittier family gathering without Shirley cooking enough food to feed five times more people than were present.

Shirley Ann Whittier's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family, but she leaves beautiful memories of her loving and caring nature, her insatiable curiosity about the world, and her unwavering commitment to family. Shirley's boundless spirit, zest for life, and warm-heartedness will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Lydia and Albert, brother Richard, and husband Karl.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held Friday, November 10th at Wilk’s Funeral Home. Viewing from 1:00-2:00pm with a service at 2:00pm. A graveside ceremony will be on Saturday, November 11th at 9:30 am at Mountain View Cemetery.
