Shirley Campau

December 12, 1937 — July 10, 2023

Shirley Jean Campau was born December 12, 1937 to Alvin Sharp and Ruth Hollis Sharp in Limestone Township, Illinois. She was the eldest of 10 children. She and her family lived in many different places due to her father’s job in construction.

Shirley graduated from high school in Oregon and moved to Portland to work. She met the love of her life in Portland. Carl was stationed with the navy in Washington but often came to Portland with his buddies to meet girls. Shirley and Carl met at a dance and the rest is history.

They were married on February 22, 1957. They had been married for 62 years the year of his death. Together they had two children, a daughter, Wendy (Randy) and a son, David (Annette).

Shirley is survived by her children, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 younger sisters.

Shirley worked in nursing for the majority of her adult life. She received her Licensed Practical Nursing certification in 1963. She worked in many nursing positions throughout her career. She found her niche in pediatrics and went to work for the Pocatello Childrens Clinic upon it opening. She worked for several different pediatricians during her tenure at the clinic. When Shirley did finally retire, it only lasted a year or so and she became bored and went back to work at an OB-GYN clinic part time. She loved being a nurse and it didn't matter where we were, someone always recognized her from taking care of their children or of them.

Carl and Shirley were L.D.S., they served in many positions with their church and both found joy in serving. She loved her ward and all the people she served with. She especially enjoyed home teaching.

Shirley loved that as a family we played a lot together. Camping, water skiing, snow skiing, riding motorcycles and just being together. She also loved to read, sew, crochet, and knit. She made many special items for her children and grandchildren. She was a very talented seamstress.

Shirley passed away at home on July 10, 2023 with her family at her side.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die."

Shirley lives on in our hearts. She is at home with Carl and her Savior, take peace in that. In lieu of flowers, she would love that you donate to the Ronald McDonald house in memory of her and her great granddaughter, Laykin who died in infancy.
