Shirley Comstock Née Buchanan, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 83 on 1 November 2022. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Shirley June Buchanan was born 20 August 1939 in California and grew up in Mesa, Arizona. The family moved back to California when she was a teenager. It was there, at the age of 22, she met the love of her life, Ray Comstock, at a church dance. Three months later they were married in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Shirley and Ray had eight children. She had a wicked, in a good way, sense of humor, and as the center of a large, tight-knit family she loved nothing better then to gather her loved ones around her for good food and lots of laughter.
When alone with her sweetheart, Ray, she enjoyed going for walks, taking weekend trips to Salt Lake City or Idaho Falls and playing games like 10,000 or Yahtzee. She had a habit of cheating, but always warned you in advance.
Shirley and Ray taught their children through example the importance of, and joy gained, in service to others. They served a mission for their church in New Martinsville, West Virginia from July 2007 to April 2008.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Ira ‘Carl’ Buchanan and Eunice (Munk) Buchanan, her brother Michael, and sisters Iris, Melissa, and Denise. She is survived by her husband Ray Comstock and children, Tami Comstock, Jami (Comstock) Leavitt, Amy Comstock, Eric Comstock, Jason Comstock, Jacob Comstock, Michael Comstock, and Anthony Bates, her sister Patricia Ray and brothers, Ronald Buchanan and Philip Buchanan, 30 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
