Tammy Jo Johnson

September 16, 1961 — September 14, 2013

Tammy Jo Johnson was called back to her Heavenly Parents on September 14, 2013, following complications after surgery, two days before her 52nd birthday. Tammy was born in Pocatello, ID on September 16, 1961 to Sharleen Partner and the late Kenneth Pickens. She was the oldest of three children. Tammy lived in Pocatello all her life where she attended Chubbuck Elementary, Hawthorne Jr. High School, and graduated from Highland High School with High Honors. She was involved with National Honor Society and Key Club. Tammy attended Ricks College graduating with an Associate's Degree in Communicative Disorders. She then attended Idaho State University and graduated with two Associate's from the College of Technology in Computer Science. Tammy worked at Kmart while attending ISU. After graduation from ISU Tammy started working for the US Federal Courts as a deputy clerk. She was promoted to Senior Audio Technician, their "computer mechanic." Tammy held this position until her passing.
Tammy met George Johnson in 1987. Tammy was the brave one and initiated the first date. After three years of an off and on-again relationship George proposed to Tammy late on St Patrick's Day 1991. Upon arrival at her apartment that night he told her he would not be able to leave until he had asked her to marry him. Tammy showed no mercy as George hinted and hummed and hawed around the question, but she never took the bait. After three hours, and just before midnight, he popped the question. Tammy replied immediately, "Yes." George said, "Gee that wasn't so hard to do." They shot out the door to let Sharleen and Harvey know the good/bad news. And George's mother the good news. Seven weeks later Tammy and George were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 10, 1991. Otherwise, they would have had to wait, "Clear til June!" The first of two absolute miracles, Emily Jo, arrived in April of 1992. In November 1994, the second miracle showed up, his name is Matthew Dean. Helped by talented medical personnel and enduring many personal trials and sacrifices Tammy was blessed by the Lord in being able to deliver two wonderful children. Emily and Matthew are the greatest legacy left by this amazing woman. How we prize what she did for us, her little family. We miss her terribly, but know she will always be near us, waiting for the time when we will be reunited.
Tammy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints serving with George in several callings. She was also a Cub Scout Leader with Matthew and a Young Women's Personal Progress leader and First Counselor with Emily. At the time of her passing, she was the Relief Society President and what an amazing job she did. Tammy served everyone with selfless love. Her greatest desire was to be able to touch someone in a Christ like way.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jacob De La Rosa and Cory, Cole, Jim and other staff in the Cardiovascular ICU at Portneuf Medical Center.
Tammy left behind many family and friends. She is survived by George Johnson (husband), Emily Jo Johnson (daughter), and Matthew Dean Johnson (son) all of Chubbuck, ID, Sharleen and Harvey Partner (parents) of Pocatello, ID, Laurie (Eric) Robinson (sister) and Kevin (Becca) Pickens (brother) all of SLC, UT. She showed great loving kindness to her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Pickens, mother-in-law Rea Johnson, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
There will be a viewing held at the Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm.
