Thomas Emery Roberts

DOWNEY-Thomas Emery Roberts, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 3, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

Thomas was born in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the son of Emery “Doc” Roberts and Karen Marie Johanna Knudsen Roberts.

He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1942. After graduation, he joined the US Navy. He saw active duty in the Pacific until his honorable discharge in December of 1945.

Tom worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 42 years. He was the Station Master in Pocatello for nearly 20 years. He held various positions with the railroad in Pocatello, Portland Oregon, Tacoma Washington and Omaha Nebraska.

Thomas loved animals, wood working and also loved to repair clocks.

He was a 50 year member of the Mt. Kinport Blue Lodge of the Free Masons. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, MaryAnne (Wade) Harris of Huntsville, Utah, granddaughter, Katie Harris, of Pullman, Washington, grandson, Thomas Harris of Logan, Utah, love of his life, Martha Richards, brother, Ray (Fran) Roberts, sister, Ethylene Roberts all of Pocatello, Idaho, sister, Cile (Bill) Howard of Austin, Texas, brother, Tommy (Donna) Roberts of Reno, Nevada, and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas is preceded in death by his wife Gladys “Pat” Goddard Roberts, son, Patrick Roberts, wife, Jean Amundsen Roberts, his mother and father, brothers; Bill Roberts and Bob Roberts, sister, Neva Maria Roberts Knight McGrath.

Thomas's family would like to give a special thank you to the Richards Family, for the love and kindness shown to Tom.

They also wish to give a special thank you to Access Hospice for their loving care.

A graveside service for Thomas will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Mountain View Cemetery, Section 9 East. Military Rites will be provided by the Pocatello Veteran Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, 238-8000. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.wilksfuneralhome.com.
