Velma Haussler Buzzell

d. November 17, 2011

LAVA HOT SPRINGS, IDAHO - Velma Lillie (Haussler) Buzzell passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Portneuf Regional Medical Center. She was 96 when she departed this life. Velma was the youngest daughter born to Charles and Louise (Heman) Haussler at Holbrook, NB on June 4, 1915. She had three older brothers and one older sister. When Velma was eight years old she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Culbertson, NB. Velma was united in marriage to Glenn Buzzell on October 28, 1933 and to this union was born one son, Dennis Ray. In October 1937 Glenn and Velma moved to Hillsboro, Oregon where they lived until October 1959 when they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah for employment. While in Oregon she worked as a certified welder in the shipyards during the war. She also worked for Safeway in Beaverton, Oregon for 81/2 years. In April 1974 Velma and her husband retired and returned to a small acreage in Culbertson, NB. In 2000 Glenn and Velma moved to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho to be close to their family. When Glenn passed away shortly after locating in Lava, Velma continued to reside in their home. Later she moved into Pocatello, Idaho to Caring Hearts Assisted Living. She enjoyed her time there and made many friends. At the passing of her son, Dennis, Velma again returned to Lava to be closer to her grandchildren. She was residing at Safe Haven Assisted Living at the time of her passing, where again she made new friends and acquaintances. Everyone that met Velma learned to love her and appreciate her great sense of humor. She had a real zest for life and a smile that would make you melt. Velma had a special place in her heart for cats and always had one or more that she was spoiling. In later years when she could no longer have a live cat by her side, she at least had a ceramic one or stuffed ones surrounding her. She loved to have fun and would travel every chance she got. Besides loving to travel Velma loved reading, handicrafts, dancing, playing rummy, pinochle, and bingo. She was an avid journal keeper and wrote in hers every day. She leaves behind a legacy of her life in her journals for her family to cherish. Velma was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in McCook, NB and a member of the Aloha Rebekah Lodge #235 IOOF Oregon. As a member of the Rebekah Lodge she advanced through all the stations and was active in their organization. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Glenn, one son, Dennis Ray, three brothers and one sister. Those left behind to mourn her passing include a granddaughter, Julie Ann (Mark) Patterson, a Grandson, Dennis Allan (Lyn) Buzzell, all of Lava, three great granddaughters, Cori (Whalan) Rife of Lava, Kristina Buzzell and Crystal Galicia both of SLC, Utah., and 4 great-great grandchildren, Ausha Monsler and Italia Rife of Lava, Jordan and Alondra Galicia of SLC, Utah and her close friend and ex-daughter-in-law Shirley Souders also of Lava. Also morning will be her long time caregiver, traveling companion, and partner in crime, Dee Ann Christensen also from Lava. She will be missed greatly by other extended family and friends. Per her wishes, Velma was cremated and her ashes will be interred in Culbertson, NB at a later date. Friends are Forever Velma, Dear Velma How you light up my life Like the sun in the sky On a day filled with light We've laughed and we've cried We've joked with each other All our hours together Felt like daughter and mother Through many long hours We would chat and we'd chew The woes of the world Or the joys that we knew We would go out for Breakfast Or maybe dinner or lunch Some days even went for all three The rest-aur-ant Scene was our favorite bunch I knew all your likes And your dislikes as well And some days those dislikes Made you ornery as _ _ _ _ !!!! But we always made up I could tell by your smile By that gleam in your eye That said come sit for awhile My life has been blessed Because you were there To need me, To love me You're an answer to prayers God Brought us together I thank Him each day Goodbye, my DEAR FRIEND There's no words left to say Dee Ann Christensen 11/16/2011
