Velma Joyce Jones

Velma Joyce Jones, 83, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2016 at Rosetta Assisted Living, in Pocatello, surrounded by her loved ones. Velma was born June 25, 1933 in Idaho Falls to Freeman and Myrtle Foster. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1951. She worked in the potato fields for a summer with her sister, Barbara, to buy their dad a 22 Rifle. She also worked at Farrs Ice Cream in Idaho Falls. She married Burt Jones Jr. on September 2, 1952 in Idaho Falls. They moved to Chubbuck in 1952 and then to Pocatello in 1956. Velma was an avid bowler for over 50 years with a lifetime (WIBC), Womens International Bowling Congress membership. She was also a member of Gutter Gussys and High Five. She loved camping, playing bingo, and going to the casinos. She treasured big dinners with loved ones and anything that involved family. She loved crocheting and knitting and made quilts for all her grandchildren. Survivors include 5 sons, Jerry (Laura) Jones, Randy (Glenda) Jones, Robert Jones, Ken (Barbara) Jones, Mike (Janella) Jones; sister, Barbara Greer; three brothers, Jack (Rose) Foster, John (Darlene) Foster, and Steve (Ruth) Foster. She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was a grandma and mom to all of her bowling alley friends as well. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. A viewing will be held Thursday, December 8 from 4-5 pm at Colonial Funeral Home with funeral services on Friday, December 9 at 11 am also at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
