Viola May Swore

April 11, 1924 — March 12, 2011

Viola May Swore, 86, of Pocatello passed away on Saturday, March 12, at a local health care facility. Viola “Solee” was born on April 11, 1924, in Readyville, Idaho, to Joseph and Irene Bullock. She was a twin and the tenth of twelve children. She grew up in the Readyville/McCammon area. She graduated from McCammon High School in the top two of the class of 1942. She moved to Pocatello after graduation and worked for Kraft Cheese and the Idaho Egg company during WWII. In 1961 she moved with her family to a farm on the Tyhee flat which remained her home until her passing.

She met Lloyd Swore, the love of her life, during the Christmas holidays in 1943/44. Lloyd returned to Pocatello on December 15, 1945 after being discharged from the U.S. Army at the end of WWII. They were married on January 26, 1946. It was then that she began her great work in life being a wife and mother. They have three sons and a daughter: Jerry, Steven, Timothy, and Jennifer.

Viola was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. “Gramma” was a home maker. Her highest priority was the well being of her husband and children. She loved to cook, can, sew, and quilt. She had a green thumb and grew prize winning flowers and vegetables which she exhibited at local fairs. Almost everything the family used was “homemade”. She loved the farm and the animals. She named all the animals and had great concern over the well being. It seemed that all the stray cats and dogs on the flat knew where to go for a good meal and a place to stay. Her favorite pass time was feeding and watching the birds. She would always be waiting for the first Robins to arrive in the spring. Spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren was a great joy. She loved to rock the little ones and read and tell them stories. She was a woman full of compassion with a heart made of gold. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cree and staff, the PRMC and the Quinn Meadows facilities for the compassionate care she was given during her short illness.

She is survived by her husband Lloyd and children: Jerry (Janiel), Steven (Brenda), Timothy (Maria), and Jennifer (Chris) Hawkins. Her grandchildren: Michael (Wendy), Christie (Moses) Collier, Scott (Rashell ), Jeffery (Courtney), Rebecca (Allen), Trisha, Travis (Ryan), Kathryn, Stephanie, Ashley(Cade) Goebel, and Casey Hawkins. She has 21 great-grandchildren.

She was last living child of Joseph and Irene Bullock and was proceded in death by her parents and six brothers and five sisters.
