Wayne Dixon Hawkes (Hawkeye), passed into everlasting life on August 30, 2020. He was born on August 19, 1935 to Luther and Leoma Hawkes. Wayne was a lifelong Pocatello resident and attended Pocatello Schools. He was 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Leoma Hawkes; his wife, Mary Hawkes (affectionately known as Jane); his grandsons, Nicholas Collins and Johnathan Xavier VanWart; former son-in-law, Russ Collins; brother, Graydon Collins; sister, Lola Hawkes; his step-daughter, Kari; and his former wives, Frances Freeman and Berta Bullington.
He is survived by his children, Debi Buchanan (Mike) of Pocatello, ID, Pam Whiting (John) of Pocatello, ID, Wayne "Bud" Hawkes (Susan) of Afton, Oklahoma; his step-children, Julie Farmer (Marty), and Ryan Smith (Robyn); numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, JoAn Williamson (Jerry), Rosalee Hunter (Keith); and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was in the Idaho National Guard. He worked for Bullock Motor Company, Teds Chrysler Plymouth, and retired from Hirning Buick GMC in the 1990s.
Wayne loved to work on cars and could fix almost anything. He was incredible with his hands. He built a Drag Car and loved to race at the Pocatello Drag Strip and in the Idaho Circuit. After he sold his Drag Car, he enjoyed working on cars, in the pit, at the Pocatello Speedway. He loved to snow mobile and was the President of the Southeast Idaho Snowmobile Association in the 70s. He and Jane loved to 4-wheel and spent many weeks playing and fishing at their cabin in Island Park, ID.
A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID. A webcast of the graveside services will be available here on this page (tab at the bottom right side, will not be present until the day of the service) starting at 11:00 A.M.
There will be a viewing one-hour prior to the service at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho. Masks will be required at the viewing.
