Al Sher

March 3, 1936 — December 6, 2025

Pocatello

Sher Alam ‘Al’ Sher, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 6, 2025. He died at home, of natural causes, surrounded by loved ones. Al was born on March 3, 1936 to Khan Mohammed Azam and Yaqoot Jan, In Kohat Pakistan. He spent his early years in Kohat with his mother, helping shape the compassionate, resilient, and generous man he became.

Al attended Peshawar Islamic University, where he excelled both academically and athletically, proudly serving as captain of the university soccer team. His studies in commercial aviation and later civil engineering reflected his ambition, intellect, and determination to build a better life.

In November 1961, Al immigrated to the United States and began working for Morrison Knudsen Engineering in Boise, Idaho. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Karen Davidson. The two married in April 1962 in Elko, Nevada, and together raised three children –Monty, Tonya, and Nicole.

Al made his home in Pocatello, Idaho for most of his life. He worked for many years as a purchasing manager at Idaho Bearing, where he was respected for his honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic. He later moved into real estate and owned several businesses and commercial properties throughout the years, pursuing opportunities with the same drive and resourcefulness that defined every chapter of his life.

In 1986, Al joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith brought him joy and purpose, and along with the love of his wife, brought about a profound change in his life. In 1987, Al was sealed to his family for time and all eternity—an experience he cherished deeply.

Al loved golfing, loved his country, and was immensely proud to become an American citizen in 1971. He was a man of extraordinary generosity, giving freely of his time, resources, and compassion. Having grown up with very little, he carried a lifelong empathy for those who struggled and quietly helped countless people without seeking recognition. He greeted everyone with kindness, refrained from judgement, and lived each day with sincerity, gratitude, and integrity.

Above all, Al adored his family. Being a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him immeasurable joy, and his gentle presence and unconditional love will continue to bless his family for generations.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Mohammed Azam and Yaqoot; his half brother, Qayum; his infant sister; his beloved wife, Karen; and two son in laws, Eric Gifford and Trent Kunz.

He is survived by his brother, Alam Sher; his children, Monty (Tammy) Sher; Tonya Kunz; and Nicole Sher; his 13 grandchildren- Megan Gifford; Logan (Tatum) Gifford; Madison (Henry) Evans; Trenton Clinkscales; Rylee Gifford; Jaidan Clinkscales; Tyler Clinkscales; Tate Kunz; Hannah Kunz; Eric Miller; Emily (Hyrum) Hoffa; Katie (Kade) Miller; and Kayla (Tyler) Spencer; and his 11 great-grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heritage Hospice–particularly his nurses Adri and Jakob, his aid Jaden, and Dr. Fenstermaker- for making his last few months on this earth comfortable and providing exceptional care and support. They also deeply appreciate Dr Kam, Dr. Hickey, and Dr. Honeycutt who treated him with care and compassion during the years.

In lieu of flowers please pay it forward. Show kindness to everyone you meet and light the world with service as Al did.
