Alexander "Alex" Michael Ernst, 29, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Mark Twain said, “Kindness is the language that the deaf can hear, and the blind can see.” If this is true, Alex was speaking everyone’s language. Alex was one of the kindest people you could ever know. He always sought to make people smile, laugh, and feel good about themselves.
Alex was born on March 8, 1997, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kevin and Cassy. He had the biggest, most beautiful eyes, which everyone who saw him commented on. He was a smart, energetic child who excelled in school and played several sports, including baseball, basketball, and football. Even as a young child, Alex loved to make people happy. When he was three, he pointed at a unique-looking building while driving with his mom and said, “Mommy, that is where you and me are going to get married.” This will always be a highlight of his mom’s life.
Alex enjoyed cooking and eating! He loved his mom’s chicken enchiladas, his stepmom’s calzones, and enjoyed trying new recipes with his wife, Paige. He also enjoyed writing, playing, and listening to music. He was quite talented at writing lyrics. He had an intense love for animals and had several fur-babies, including Bentley, Ghost, Arya, and Penelope.
Alex met his wife, Paige, at Domino’s, where they worked together. They dated for a while before Alex finally proposed on January 27, 2022, in a gazebo in a park near where they worked. Like the romantic that he was, they married on Valentine’s Day in 2023. They enjoyed laughing together, watching Harry Potter movies, and going swimming, where Alex was teaching Paige to swim. He always had others at the forefront of his thoughts.
Alex inspired many people in his lifetime. His little brother Carson admired him so much that, from about three until now, at eleven, Carson says he wants to be a Domino’s pizza worker, just like Alex. He also touched the hearts of the doctors and nurses who cared for him over the years at Portneuf Medical Center, with many telling his family that he was kind, respectful, and had a huge heart.
Alex is survived by his wife, Paige; his mom, Cassy; stepdad, Dan; brother, Carson; dad, Kevin; stepmom, Wendi; brother, Keegan; and sister, Annika, as well as his grandparents, Shari, Sue, Bob, Robyn, and Andy. Alex also had many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Alex is preceded in death by his papa, Richard, who, we are sure, greeted him with open arms and a huge smile!
Alex’s family will host a celebration of life on May 2 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 West Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, Idaho.
