A Celebration of Life service will be held for Rebecca Rae “Becky” Crompton, 71, born Aug. 21, 1954, in Indio, CA, passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 17, 2025, after years of battling medical related issues. The service will be held at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. Following the brief service, guests will be invited to visit and reminisce, with refreshments available.
Becky was the life of every party when growing up and never met a person who didn’t immediately become a friend. That came in handy for the American Falls High School 1972 graduate after she be came a hairstylist in Pocatello and Chubbuck for many years prior to her death. Everyone knows about gathering at the barber shop to gossip and learn the latest news every day -- kind of like she did in her early years working at The Power County Press for her father and mother, Robert and Erma Crompton.
During those high school years Becky was a member of a mostly all female band (The Broad Squad), that played often at events in American Falls. They would practice during the week (Becky was the drummer) in an area in the back of Melody Lanes bowling alley, a hot spot in town when bowling was a much more popular sport. Sometimes it became loud enough you couldn’t tell what made more noise, the band or the machine placing the pins at the end of the alleys.
The Crompton family members all worked in the newspaper business and helped address and send out the newspapers early in the morning, returning just in time for school with slightly inky fingers.
The Cromptons first moved to Ameri can Falls in November of 1959 when dad and mom bought The Press. They later also purchased The Aberdeen Times. Becky’s siblings include older brother Kim and his wife Kathleen from Spokane, WA, another older (by about 18 minutes) twin brother Brett and his wife Debbie of American Falls, a younger brother Kelly and his wife Lynette of American Falls, and then along came Elizabeth, the young est and only member of the family actually born in American Falls. She and her husband Eddie Fehringer live in Priest River, ID. We all tried to convince Liz she was adopted but she wouldn’t fall for it. She is also survived by four nieces and six nephews with whom she loved spending time.
After graduation from high school, Becky went on to barber school and some time at Idaho State University. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She started as a hairstylist working in a shop in Pocatello. Eventually she opened her own shop in Chubbuck and later worked from her home. She had a client list already made, taking care of the hair needs of family members, friends from American Falls and Pocatello as well. She was also politically active for a number of years in Pocatello by helping as a poll worker in her district every election.
The list of “best friends” is too long to report, without forgetting someone, so we thank them all now for their friendship. They also have spent a lot of time sitting by her side as her health deteriorated. She had one special friend, Lori Dawson, who became her partner and they shared a life together for about 20 years before Lori died in February of 2016. They were animal lovers and rarely were without at least one or two dogs.
