Bob Melvin Wright, 92, passed away on August 10, 2024.
Bob Melvin Wright was born January 18th, 1932 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Hilda Erickson Wright and Charles Melvin Wright. He was the fifth child of 11 children. Bob grew up in Lewisville, Idaho. His father was a livestock trader and worked at a cheese factory. He learned how to work hard at a young age by doing daily chores which included cutting kindling for the wood stove and milking the cows. He grew up with an appreciation for the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. Bob was a talented horseman and became a jockey and raced horses. He even grew up breaking horses for his father. At the age of 13, he met a beautiful girl named Beverly George while she was working the concessions stand at her parent’s movie theater in Rigby. Little did he know, she would later become the love of his life.
Bob attended Midway High School. He was very athletic and loved to play football and basketball. When Midway High School burned down, he was sent to Rigby High School to finish out his schooling. It just so happened, that Beverly was one of his classmates. After high school, Bob went to Rick’s College on a football scholarship and lettered in varsity football after one year. He quit playing football and left Rick’s College after just one year to marry Beverly, a marriage that would last 71 ½ years. In order to provide for his new family and for Beverly to stay home as a homemaker, Bob put himself through pharmacy school at Idaho State College. He worked as a pharmacy technician at Gate City Pharmacy while going to college and graduated with honors in 1960 with a bachelor of pharmacy. When he graduated from college with honors, he had three children, (Teresa, Susan, and Hal), and one on the way, (Scott.) Through this season, he still found time to fish the reservation.
Bob was a pharmacist for 37 years. He loved being a pharmacist and was very meticulous and precise when it came to his profession. He had a great rapport and mutual respect for the community physicians. He was always willing to explain the medication he dispensed to his patients, and in return, they respected him and his opinion.
Bob was a loving father who enjoyed taking his boys hunting, fishing and camping. The family would take a number of big vacations as the kids were growing up. Bob owned several horses and taught his kids to ride as well. He had a green thumb and took pride in his yard. The neighbors still say that there was never a weed in Bob’s yard! Bob and Beverly loved to get dressed up and have dinner and go dancing with friends at the Green Triangle. They also owned a cabin in Island Park where they made lots of friends. They loved playing cards like Nerts and Pinochle, go boating and fishing in the Island Park Reservoir, and would ride their 4-wheelers with their friends around the cabin area. It was at the cabin where many wonderful, magical memories were created for their children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed hard work and would work hard even into his later years. He would even help his son Scott split firewood.
Bob and Beverly were very active in their church, Calvary Chapel. When they were setting up the church and remodeling the old Sports World, Bob would get ready every morning, take a lunch and go to the church to work with the other men. He took pride in the work he did to establish the church building. They had many friends in their church family that they would have breakfast with almost every Sunday.
Bob and Beverly would lovingly be known as Grammy and Gramps to their grandchildren. Grammy and Gramps were hands down the most amazing grandparents. His boys called him dad, his girls called him daddy, his grandchildren called him Gramps, and the caregivers at The Gables called him Bobby Boy.
Bob left his earthly home on August 10th, 2024 to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior and to see his love, Beverly. The family would like to thank Heritage Home Health & Hospice and all the loving and caring staff at the Gables for their tender compassion and care they provided Bob. Special thanks to Annabritt Richardson from friends and family who cared for our parents while in their home.
Bob is preceded in death by seven sisters, his mother and father, and his loving wife, Beverly. He is survived by his children Teresa (Brent) Wilde, Susan (Craig) Norby, Hal (Janet) Wright, and Scott (Patty) Wright, nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
