Wid was born in Lava Hot Springs on September 2, 1950 as an only child to Wid and Pauline Hobson.
He grew up in Pocatello. He started working at the Union Pacific Railroad in 1973 as a carman welder and retired after 37 years with them.
He married Renee Mittlestedt and they had two sons together, Rick and Sean. The marriage ended in divorce years later. Wid met Trena in 1986 and eventually they decided to get married after 17 years of being together. They married in 2003.
Wid enjoyed horse racing and at one time he shared ownership with his own horses and cutter team. He mostly enjoyed hunting and fishing and camping with his friends. Wid was a faithful New York Giants football fan and always made sure his name was on every football board out there every season.
Wid is survived by his wife, Trena; step-son, Nick Shepard (Beixy); and step-daughter, Heather Gonzales (Pete); Son, Rick Hobson (Roni); grandson Kody Hobson (Samantha); and two great-grand-children; Bree Hobson, and Ivy Emory (Mike); son, Sean Hobson (Keri); grandsons Brenden Hobson and Alex Hobson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Wid's request he will be cremated with no memorial service although a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
A very special thank you goes out to Jakob and Annie with Heritage Home Health & Hospice for the care they provided to Wid during this difficult time.
