Bruce Richard Machurek, 86, affectionately known as “Mac” passed away on September 1, 2024, in Pocatello, Idaho. He was born on May 12, 1938, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
A proud veteran, Mac joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served proudly for 20 years, exemplifying a deep commitment to his country. He retired with the rank of Chief Mechanic. In 1958, Mac married Rose Marie Brinkmeier. They had four children together. After his military career, he went back to school and received his AA degree from Mesa College in San Diego. He then started a banking career that eventually brought him to Pocatello in 1991. Mac enjoyed working for both ICCU and ISUCU until he retired.
Mac cherished his time fishing and camping in the lakes, rivers, and mountains of Idaho. He was always up for a game of pool or engaging in online fighter pilot games. He was known for his fondness of steamed clams, artichokes, and his late wife Rose’s recipe for liver and onions. Mac loved taking trips to Yuma, AZ (Lake Martinez) which held a special place in his heart.
He loved working on cars with Jim, watching Mike play football, and camping with Julie and Marc. Mac enjoyed watching ISU football games and was a season ticket holder. Over the years, he attended many of his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Rose (2006); son, Bob (2006) and girlfriend, Dorothy Murphy (2023) with whom he shared many wonderful years.
Mac is survived by his siblings, Bev (Ron) Luce, Linda Walker, and Diane Hale; his children, Mike (Leslie), Jim (Ann), Julie (Marc) Gauthier; grandchildren, Candace (Justin) Rose, Madison, Justin (Lindsey) Walls, Matthew (Dylana), Chris, and five great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Brookdale Senior Living Center staff for their care and patience over the last six months.
